Neil Barrett: Welcome, welcome, welcome to the runout. I am Neil Barrett. He is Brandon Hooten. We have a ton to get into this week, as we do every week. Rob Pennell just became the all-time leading scorer. The charm punched their ticket to the first ever WLL championship. And the Nighthawks are turning back the clock while a former MVP might be might have just played his last game. ⁓ but before we get into all of that, Brandon, how we doing, man.
@HootSportsMedia: Doing well. Another busy weekend. Got to watch some full games this weekend. ⁓ still some partials, but you know, got to watch more than than recent weeks, so that's fun. And ⁓ just gearing up for five games of shooting this weekend. And
Neil Barrett: Nice.
@HootSportsMedia: Going golfing Thursday. So that that'll be a a fun setup.
Neil Barrett: I didn't even know you played golf.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, that's why I couldn't watch the games last Friday 'cause that was golfing in too. Gotta get it in when you can, you know. It's i Yeah, it's it's a fun game. It's a it's a challenging game. It's a humbling game, to say the least. ⁓
Neil Barrett: This guy This guy in his golf. It's a humbling game.
@HootSportsMedia: I'm just there for the vibes, you know?
Neil Barrett: All right, gotta do a guy gotta do a check in before we start talking about lacrosse. The World Cup final was this Sunday. Did you watch?
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah, it was awesome watching the United States win. That was ⁓ what a great game. ⁓
Neil Barrett: In other words, you did not take Mike Rabel's advice.
@HootSportsMedia: I I did take Mike Grapel's advice. I did not watch the World Cup. Instead watched ⁓ the PL game. ⁓ I I don't think Paul took Mike's advice, but I certainly did. Yeah. Yeah. Then again, maybe maybe Paul had a little phone or tablet set up, you know, in the suite at the World Cup watching the game too. I don't know.
Neil Barrett: Pa Paul definitely did not take Mike's advice. I mean, maybe.
@HootSportsMedia: As someone who wants Sunday lacrosse, I was I was tapped in 'cause I I was like, I need to support this so they do it more.
Neil Barrett: Listen, I watched both. I had both up. I had I had one on my laptop and one on my TV. I I watched both. I will
@HootSportsMedia: Hey, ⁓ yeah. No. I I enjoyed ⁓ your commentary along with Jordan's in the in the group chat just going back and forth and Jordan asking all these questions about soccer and like so funny. Just He was like, Why did that why did that goal not end the game? And I was like, 'Cause not sudden death, dude
Neil Barrett: Listen, any Yeah. Listen, any anyone that comes and has like a legitimate interest, like they they're asking legitimate questions. They're not trying to be funny. They're not trying I am more than happy to that's like one of my favorite things ever is to like, you know, teach people sports. Like I, you know, I I love these games. I I love watching them, I love talking about them. So, you know, I'm more than happy to talk about these things with with people as long as they you know, are are legit and I'm not I'm not expecting Jordan to become, you know, a a lifelong fan or anything, but like he was asking legitimate he was watching. He wanted to know what he was watching. And if if anyone's ever going to get into a sport, that's the time. So like, no, it was it was fun to like answer his questions. And I and I I like that he wasn't, you know, embarrassed to s to say like why didn't that game why didn't that goal end the game? You know, why why are we Still doing this, why is this happening you know, whatever. ⁓ I I will say I do feel a little bit bad that ⁓ anyone who liked that was their first interaction with the sport, because even for even for soccer fans, it was not the most entertaining game. I mean, obviously it was more entertaining, I think, for us, but if you were if if that was your first time tuning in, you were like, Yeah, this game sucks.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I don't know. I I I ⁓ I saw a video where someone was talking about like how Argentina got to that point. I guess there was some controversy about how they got there and such and I like, ⁓ I didn't realize this was like a heated thing. Like people were like actually upset about it. ⁓ so that was interesting for sure. ⁓ I did what's funny is prior to that video, I was like I kinda want Messi to win one, like go out on top kinda thing.
Neil Barrett: Very, very slow. Yeah. And then you changed her mind.
@HootSportsMedia: And like everyone around me was like, No, it needs to be Spain. I like, ⁓ I like, hang on, I don't actually care. I just whoa, like
Neil Barrett: Yeah, well, what really bums me out is that so many people watch that final and it was just not a great final, which often happens in finals. ⁓ teams play more not to lose than they do to actually win. Especially the longer it goes scoreless. ⁓ you know, it your your hope is that that somebody scores early and now now the other team's chasing the game and then they they might score and then they you know it
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah.
Neil Barrett: it it gets a much more entertaining game, but the the longer it goes scoreless, the more people kind of tighten up and they they play not to lose rather than to win. And it it's such a bummer because the day before that third place game was incredible. It was six four was that the finals or five thr five three, maybe six four I can't remember. Totally blinking.
@HootSportsMedia: W whatever it was, it was more than chaos scored, as Michael Harrison pointed out.
Neil Barrett: Yes, yes. We'll get into that. But yes, the third place World Cup game scored more goals than Michael Harris ⁓ than than Michael Harrison scored than hey hey we don't know we don't know he might he might have been in that backyard just yeah I'm I wasn't there I'm not here to judge Michael Harrison if you're listening you you feel free to score as many goals as you would like but
@HootSportsMedia: Well they definitely score more than Michael Harrison, but ⁓ he's out in the men's league just just dropping dropping goals left and right. ⁓ that's fair, that's fair. Matter of fact, I hope he does score all the goals. All of them.
Neil Barrett: I hope he scores every goal imaginable. I hope he's like Ryder Garnsey out there, just not scoring the same goal twice, over and over and over.
@HootSportsMedia: Yes. He's gonna be like, What am I listening to right now?
Neil Barrett: Yeah, ri he's he is I can tell you, I guarantee you right now, he his face is flush and he is very embarrassed to be being talked about this much on our podcast. But whatever. That's that's what happens when when your friends have microphones, Michael. That's that's what happens. All right, let's let's actually get to the games this weekend. We will start with what was
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: Of course, the story of the weekend when the Redwoods took on, I meant to say Whip Snakes, I almost Redwoods, Redwoods. When the Whip Snakes took on the Redwoods, absolutely demolished them 20 to 7. we will need to talk about that. But obviously, the first thing that we have to talk about is Rob Pennell passing Paul Rayleigh for the all-time points record. ⁓ just I don't even know what to say at this point. I it feels like so much of it's already been said. ⁓ an incredible feat. ⁓ I don't know if you saw some of the statistics that came out today on Twitter about what it would take current players to get to that. ⁓ I know I think CJ Kirst and Jeff Teat would both have to play until they were 37 at their at their current pace, would both have to play until they were 37. ⁓ again, at their current pace, which is And so Alec, imagine Jeff T ⁓ putting up 50 points at the age of 37. That would be insane. So Again, I don't I don't really know what there is left to say about that. Just an incredible what what I think Yeah, did you? Yeah, it's it's crazy. It's crazy to read what it would take some of these guys So what is it? CJ CJ averages five points a game, right? And at the at his rate, is it four? Okay, four points a game. Yeah. Yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: I I found the I found those stats as you were talking. That seeing the actual numbers written out is insane. Four. Four points. And it would take until year fifteen roughly, they said. And Teet's at four point four three and he would still have to play another eight and a half seasons.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, so he'd be 37 as well. Like just crazy that it would take that long. And and it's even more crazy when you think about the fact that Rob Pennell actually slowed down. You know, it he hasn't been as good in the PL as he was in the ML. ⁓ and and he he had several very lean years, ⁓ you know, where people people were trying to get him out of the league and stuff, telling him that he needed to retire. So Like he slowed down a good amount and he still was able to to break this record. So one thing I I I was thinking about this week because I did a video about him. And when he broke the all time NCAA record, ⁓ back in twenty thirteen when he was at Cornell, he went into a semifinal game against Duke, where Matt Danowski was the record holder. Matt Dunowski was an assistant coach on the sidelines for Duke in that game. And he came into it, I believe, needing six points, or no, six points to tie and seven points to break the record. And as a Duke fan, I didn't want him to have that record. And I was like, you know, get this dude out. He's not breaking Matt Danowski's record. Like, nope, we're holding on to that. And I I think the idea was that if if we beat Cornell. that he wouldn't break the record because you know Rob Bennell has seven points, like they're gonna win that game, surely. And he ended up with five goals and two assists, broke the record, and still somehow Cornell managed to lose. I I the only thing I can think is that Duke must have been playing like, all right, Rob, you can get yours, but nobody else is is gonna get anything. Or some like that's the only thing I can think. I d I I don't know. ⁓ I remember watching that game, but I I just it was so long ago that I don't I don't really remember that. ⁓ but I just think it's interesting that in that game he scored seven points to break the record, and in this game he scored six. You know, like he had when when push came to shove and it was time to break a record, he made sure it got broken and and had arguably one of the better performances of it. I won't Comment on his whole Cornell ⁓ senior year, but one of the better performances of the year, especially in a semifinal against Duke. And then, of course, a six-point outing at at whatever he is, 36. Is that right? 36 now? Something like that. Something like that. ⁓ you know, to have a six point record, ⁓ point total is is just crazy. ⁓ again, nothing but praise for for Rob Pennell.
@HootSportsMedia: Sounds right. I don't know.
Neil Barrett: And I it's funny because back when he was at Cornell, I I really hated that dude. I was like anybody but the he he has such a punchable face, especially when he was younger, such a punchable face. And that it didn't help his like, you know. dealing with the crowd, I guess, ⁓ was that you know, he just looked like a a ⁓ smug little punk and you just wanted to be like w which is funny to say 'cause he's like two years younger than me, but ⁓ ⁓ what was I gonna say? ⁓ he but he's a lot like Kobe Bryant and that I come to res like I've learned to respect him and the way that he plays the game and the way that he goes about it and the the you know, the length that he has done it for. So ⁓ yeah, I don't know.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, I don't know. I wasn't happy he broke it 'cause I wanted him to break it this weekend. ⁓ so that was cool. ⁓ I am glad he broke it with a goal though. I I had no assist count towards it, but like it would have been really anticlimactic to have it be like a a regular pass to a teammate goal, so I I liked it. And I like that he was just aggressive the whole time. As opposed to just like sitting back and kinda letting. Granted when your team's killing the other team, it's probably a lot easier to just like, well, I can just do whatever. But he he
Neil Barrett: Yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: you know, contributed to that so ⁓ I I appreciated that too, 'cause sometimes I think players get shy when when, you know, something like that pops up. So Congrats, I guess. You should have saved it for this week, but whatever, it's fine.
Neil Barrett: mad so mad but like you said they absolutely demolished the redwoods 20 to seven ⁓ this this felt like one of those games you and i have talked about the redwoods several times this sever several times this year and about how we thought they were one of the better teams in the league and I think a lot of people are going to draw conclusions from this game. but this to me just felt like one of those ones you get you get a couple of these a year where a team just like absolutely does not show up for a game. And I I don't know. That's the way it felt like to me was this game was just one where the Redwoods just didn't show. I don't I don't think that the whip snakes are 13 goals better than the Redwoods, is basically what I'm trying to say.
@HootSportsMedia: Probably not, but I'm done saying this team or that team is one of the better teams in the league because every other week this happens. So I I I don't know.
Neil Barrett: I mean it wasn't even the only one of the weekend, so you know, we'll get we'll get to some of the other games, but ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: My thing is they didn't stop anybody. Like at very least, you either need to say, We're gonna let Rob get the record to stop everybody else or we're not gonna let him get the record out of spite and everyone else can get theirs. Instead they were just like ⁓ they're like Oprah, you get a point, you get a point, you but ex except it was like, You get six points, you get six points, you get six points like ⁓
Neil Barrett: Yeah, to to your point, I wrote this down. ⁓ all three attackmen for the whips had six or more points. That is the first time in PLL history that's ever happened.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah. It got to a point where I was like like in the first half when they s w they were scoring when they put up eight, I was like, Man, this defense doesn't slide at all. Like they just kinda let guys just come around, they can get wherever they want, step downs, everything. And then like the third quarter came and it was like that, but on steroids again and I was just like w and so Wardo was already struggling on top of the defense, just literally just like being like, ⁓ you can just yeah Come on in. I like, come on guys, like at least make it look like you're trying. Like, go hit somebody. Do something. And there was like just I just felt like the effort was not was not there. Especially in a game like this, like like we're talking about, where there's, you know, high stakes on the line that you should have come in ready to go and be like, We're not gonna let him do that to us. And instead, like I said, you let the entire team do it and here you are. I think what are they in the in the standings now? Like second or third? Or or are actually are they even
Neil Barrett: The redwood, you mean?
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, they're third. Yeah, they're third in the West right now.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Yeah, well everybody's so bunched like you lose one game and you're just like plummet. You know, like ⁓ we'll get to Carolina later, but I I I think they were second coming into the weekend and now they're now they're bottom. Like, you know, it it's just every W that I think so. Something something like that. But
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. ⁓ yeah, I think so. I can't I don't it's har it's hard to tell because the way the tiebreakers go that are different.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, that's true. That's true. well and we we both thought that having ⁓ I'm totally blanking on his name. Who was the who was the poll that came back this week for the Redwoods?
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ Chris Fake?
Neil Barrett: Yes. We we both talk we both talked last week about how we thought having Chris Fake would help help balance out their man, ⁓ watching that game, kinda like you said, I I was like, yo, where's Kyle Hartel? Get him get him out. We didn't we haven't talked about him the the last few weeks that he's been playing. we didn't talk about him last week and and then ⁓ Jackson and I didn't talk about him the the week ⁓ that he played. not I will I will go on record and say I have never been a big
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah.
Neil Barrett: Kyle Hartzel fan. ⁓ And when they signed him, I was one of the people making jokes. But the dude came in and did a job. Like I ⁓ not even not even did a good job for a 40-year-old. He he did a good job, and he's 40 and hasn't been in the league for three years. ⁓ and and so I I want I one, I wanted to give him his due because we have not ⁓ talked about him. In the last few weeks that he's been playing, and also mention that, you know, between between Chris Fake going out, Kyle Hartle coming in, and then Kyle Hartle going back out and Chris Fake coming in, it didn't look like there was any continuity. Like that's what it felt like. I I that might be oversimplifying the issues that they had in this game. ⁓ and I certainly wouldn't say it's that, you know, just that was the issue. I it was clearly, I think, more than that. But it it just made me wonder watching that defense just struggle all game long if there was something to the idea of like all of the turnover that they've had in that defense just wreaking havoc on them.
@HootSportsMedia: I don't know, but one one thing that stood out to me was both goalies, both Krotic and Ward had very similar s numbers. If you if you, you know, take Krotic and and use his pace, it's basically the same as as Wardo's, which tells me that it's a lot more than just bad goalie play going on. And to me, this is the case where like the numbers actually match the eye test. 'Cause I mean that first quarter alone I was like Are they just not they're not gonna like I I c I can say it so many times, they're not gonna slide at all. Like this is this is what they're going to do. And then the second quarter came and I like, Okay, maybe they're just feeling it out, like it's fine. Chris Fake coming back, like all that stuff. And then it was just like, No, okay. No, it's just not not happening. And then like once once the floodgates were open, it was just like you like you're you're done for. And I didn't think their offense did a good job responding either. I mean Sam English was like the one you know, bright spot. Like I I know the other guys had had two points and whatnot, but like it did not feel like they had great games.
Neil Barrett: And No, no. And and you and I both love Sam English. His game is great. We love him in in the box. ⁓ I know you don't love that he plays for the the rock, but ⁓ you know, he he's great in the box game, he's great in the field game, he is someone that I I again I think we both really enjoy, but he should not be the guy that's like putting up points for you. Like that's not his role. I he's he's one of those guys that like can can maybe eke out a win. You know, if you can get some contribution for him, that's obviously really good. But it it's not on his shoulders to go out and win you games in that manner. So, you know, that that's just like you said, that's just part of the problem. That offense did basically nothing. ⁓ I I'd have to get this verified. I I saw a stat ⁓ that said that this is the first time. Dylan Malloy has been held without a point in a game since I want to say it was like 2018. ⁓ I again, don't quote me on that. I'm not saying that that is a a true stat. I saw it and I don't even remember where. ⁓ but yeah, I mean that that's just crazy. Like that offense is way too talented ⁓ to be playing the way that they did. Andrew Makadorie didn't look good. Ryder Garnsey didn't look good. ⁓ you know.
@HootSportsMedia: Of course not, 'cause I started man MacAdorian Fantasy, so that's on me. His two worst games of the season, I started him in fantasy. So Don't worry, don't worry Andrew. I will not start you again. You're gonna have great games the rest of the way. I got ya.
Neil Barrett: Listen. We we talked about it. We talked about it last week. Do do I need to tell you what CJ did?
@HootSportsMedia: Dude, I had him too. I think all of us had him actually because everyone I talked to was like, yeah, it's CJ, he got four points. I'm like, come on, man, like wha fifty coins for you?
Neil Barrett: He had he had four points. You know who else I had on my roster? Brandon Lavelle, who had, and again we'll get to him, had an incredible game. Guess how many points he had?
@HootSportsMedia: probably had like four turnovers. He probably had like forty five points.
Neil Barrett: Eight. He had eight points.
@HootSportsMedia: Wait, what? How is that an incredible game?
Neil Barrett: And I'm like No, because he shut down CJ Kirst. Like he was. No, and it and it's that whole, yes, that whole conversation about how like defense is so hard for us to rate because there's not a like numerical value that you can add to defen. So like you can be absolutely incredible and shut down a guy as talented as CJ Kirst.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ but he didn't but he didn't get any like cost turnovers or points or anything, so it doesn't equate. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: And and have nothing to show for it on a on a stat sheet, that is. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I thought for sure when you said he had an incredible game he like popped off and you were gonna say he put up attackman numbers and it's not even an attackman. That sucks.
Neil Barrett: Nope. Nope. No. ⁓ you know who else was on my team? Ross Scott. Ask me how many points Ross Scott had this week.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I don't even know if he scored. I don't
Neil Barrett: ⁓ he didn't score.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, negative ten, negative nine.
Neil Barrett: He had ne he had negative eleven.
@HootSportsMedia: Ooh.
Neil Barrett: Yep, negative eleven.
@HootSportsMedia: So he had what, four turnovers and a ground ball?
Neil Barrett: Exactly. That's exactly what his stat line was. Four turnovers and a ground ball. And I was like, what what is happening? You you you join my team and you just are total crap and
@HootSportsMedia: That's tough. That's tough. Yeah. So this week make sure you tell me who's on your team so I know not to pick them.
Neil Barrett: I'm ⁓ my phone's over there, but ⁓ I I'll I'll I'll text you in a little bit and w and and show you who's on my team. And you're and you're gonna be like, ⁓ yeah, that's a pretty solid looking team and then nope.
@HootSportsMedia: It's gonna be everyone I wanna put on my team. I'm gonna be like, well. Yeah. That's awful.
Neil Barrett: No. No. ⁓ in fact I I I what I usually do is do like the AI like generate and then I go in and and ⁓ maneuver it. I just sorting through everybody, I'm like, I don't I don't want to do this. This I don't have time for that. But it
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I tell my family this week I might just use that generate because I clearly cannot put together a team that's good. I won I even won this week and my team was still like garbage. So I'm like I'm just gonna start like seeing what the where they're feeling and go from there.
Neil Barrett: Ha ha ha. That that's what I do. And honestly, I should probably just leave it. because again, I start overthinking things and I'm like, well, but this guy, but that guy. ⁓ but I do remember that they put CJ Kirst on my team again this week. And I was like, nope, not doing it. Get him off. Get him out. Nope. I know, I know. The because I because I have taken him off, he will go off. But
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Sixty point game incoming. Book it.
Neil Barrett: anyway, ⁓ I I did wonder l going back to Rob Pinnell, ⁓ real quick before before we move off of this. Obviously he is one of only three people ⁓ to reach six hundred points ⁓ and obviously has the record, the all-time points record now. But my my question to you is would it be fair to say that you don't have him as the greatest player of all time, i at least ⁓ as far as field goes. Is that is that a fair statement?
@HootSportsMedia: Who who was saying that? Who was saying that?
Neil Barrett: Well, I mean he has the all time points record, you know, like there's an argument to be made. But ⁓ but my question so so you don't have him as as the greatest ever, correct?
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. No. As the great the greatest?
Neil Barrett: Field player, yeah. Okay. I that's what I assumed. I assume I'd assume that's the case for most everyone. I don't think anyone really has him as the greatest player. So then my question becomes where is he? Is he is he on the Mount Rushmore? Is he is he top ten? Like you know, it feels it feels cru
@HootSportsMedia: I I think he's gonna be tough to even make the Mount Rushmore if I'm being honest.
Neil Barrett: I'm I'm not holding you to this, but who who are four people that you would have above him? Or at least in the conversation.
@HootSportsMedia: Like I I mean, feel free to correct me, 'cause obviously I didn't watch some of these guys too much in the field game, but like the gates gotta be up there, at least one of ⁓ Paul Rabel obviously, that's like a shoe in.
Neil Barrett: Well, here's here's my thing about the Gates. First of all, I I don't think Paul Gate would be up there. It'd be Gary. It wouldn't be both. The other thing that I have my other thoughts about Gary and some of these guys, like even like Mark Millen Top Maracek, and a lot of these guys, a lot of those dudes were like 30 plus when the MLL started. So when when we talk about
@HootSportsMedia: Sure.
Neil Barrett: pro la crosse history, at least in in terms of the field game. I struggle to put guys like Gary Gate and Mark Millen and and some of those up there because they just didn't play. Now, the counter argument to that is that even at, you know, thirty-five or whatever, Gary Gay, he may not even been that old. I j I just know he was like full on gray, ⁓ when when the MLL started, ⁓ I mean, even even two thousand two, ⁓ two thousand one, ⁓ the first year of the ML, you know, he was dang good. and I I believe he I believe he won an MVP w the first year, maybe th maybe the second year, I can't remember. ⁓ and so maybe maybe the argument is just that like he he burned brighter. I you know, I don't know, i in in terms of longer. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: But even okay, but even then, like are you putting a Powell up there? Are you putting John Grant Jr. up there? These are these are just the offensive guys. I know people won't put goalizer defense up there, probably, but I'm just saying I think you have a better argument for other guys on a pure Mount Rushmore. But
Neil Barrett: Well, here here's my qu here's ⁓ here's the thing, because I agree with you. I think that's the way people think. I I I I think kind of consensus across the the lacrosse community would would probably say that. They'd have Rob Pennell behind the Powells, behind you know, maybe the Gates, maybe ⁓ probably probably even behind ⁓ Paul Rabel, you know. ⁓ But then I think about it and I'm like, his points per game is higher than basically everyone. He's got an MVP, he's got championships. Like, what what is it? He he had he has the all-time points record. What is it that we're waiting for? Like, what does he have to do that he hasn't already done before we give him that credit? And I and I'm I'm not necessarily asking.
@HootSportsMedia: Well, did did Paul Rabel play attack?
Neil Barrett: No, and that and that's certainly part of the conversation, for sure. For sure. And and and if you want to say Paul Rabel is the greatest, I I think there's an there's an argument. Now obviously, obviously he'll still, you know, add to this record, but but if he retires at the end of this season, you know, he'll only he'll only have beat Paul by, you know, a handful of of points. And Paul was a midfielder. Like, I think that's certainly worth the discussion. But some of the other guys who were attackmen who were, you know, all time great, like numeric like statistically he's better than he's got, you know, the championships. Like I I just don't again, I I think I think even I probably agree. But then I think about it and I'm like, well, what does he have to do at this point to to be up to be in that conversation?
@HootSportsMedia: I think it depends on though if you're asking cor ⁓ you know, career or player. Like if you were taking a draft and they're prime, are you taking Panel or are you taking John Grant Junior? I think most people would answer John Grant Junior. But if you look at statistically, he has the numbers on Junior.
Neil Barrett: But but that's kind of my my point is why are you taking Junior over RP three?
@HootSportsMedia: Well, I think he's physically a better athlete for one. I think he can everything Panel can do, I think Junior can do. I think Junior's probably a better scorer. Goal scorer, not not point scorer, obviously. ⁓ but again, this is just talking about the attackman. This isn't even talking like, does Brody Merrill get a spot on on Amount Rushmore? Like that's I'm not saying Pennell can never get there or like he's a garbage player. Like if you want to say he's the best or top five or whatever, like I I will listen to it. But my thing is ⁓ to answer your first question, he can't be considered the greatest ever when he's just now barely beating Paul in the same amount of seasons and he's an attackman, Paul was a midi. Like to me that you're like that's not gonna ever get get passed up. ⁓ I will say I think Panel's probably one of the most efficient guys of all time.
Neil Barrett: No, I don't. D
@HootSportsMedia: I mean you're you're averaging four points a game for fourteen years. Like that's that's insane.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Well and and again that goes back to ⁓ to the idea of like what is he what does he have to do? Like you like you said, I think I think Junior is a better athlete than him. But if that doesn't translate into putting points on the board, what does that make like Romar Dennis is a great athlete, but he's not in the league right now because he can't put the ball in the back of the net. So like
@HootSportsMedia: But but Ramar also does one thing.
Neil Barrett: Sure, sure. And and and I don't I don't want anyone to misunderstand me here. I'm not saying that Junior isn't better or you know, Paul isn't better. I'm just ⁓ it hit me kind of watching this of like, I don't think that anybody considers Rob Pennell let's say let's say Mount Rushmore more than than the greatest player of all time. I I don't think that anybody has him on the Mount Rushmore.
@HootSportsMedia: Like that's
Neil Barrett: And then but then when I look around, I'm like, yeah, but he he he's already done more than what most of those guys that we would put up there have done. So
@HootSportsMedia: Also, it's like I'm not saying this is my perspective too, but like Mark Millen played eight seasons and had three hundred and fifty total points. If he plays at Pennell's pace He's pretty dang close. I don't I don't know if he's quite breaking him, but I he averaged the same amount of points per game, four point one. So I know you brought him up earlier. I'm not saying he's better than Pinnell, but I just thought that was interesting too. ⁓ I also just don't think he passes the eye test comparatively to other players. So that's why people don't really think about him the same. Like you I think about the think about the discourse around Pinnell, what, a year or two, three years ago?
Neil Barrett: Yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: When people were saying maybe he should be out of the league because he just didn't look like he was, you know, physically capable of being a dominant player anymore. So from that standpoint, I think people just kinda bring it with them 'cause now it's just like that's who he is, even though you look at statistically and he's having like a great season. So that's not accurate, but
Neil Barrett: Which is part of the reason Well, and that that was part of the reason why when everyone was like, you know, when when some friends of ours on their podcast were talking about glue factories and stuff, and I was like, You guys are crazy. You guys are crazy. This is this is one of the best players of all time who is still producing. He's just you know, maybe he's not in the right fit, or maybe the team just isn't very good or whatever, but like it's not an issue with him. Now to just to prove my point that I'm I'm not saying that he is or isn't. As far as I'm concerned, Lyle's the best player I I think I've watched. Lyle and Mikey Powell are probably the two best players that I personally have watched play this game. Neither of them have the the stats ⁓ at the pro level. ⁓ you know, Lyle has what, one championship. I think Mikey has an ML championship. ⁓ actually actually Lyle has two, doesn't he? Because he won an ML championship. ⁓ the the first year of the PL, didn't he? I think the Bayhawks won that twenty nineteen ML championship.
@HootSportsMedia: Hmm. Well, when would a second one be though?
Neil Barrett: The NLL the with the swarm.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ you sorry I didn't realize you were timing that too. I like, When did he win a PL chip? Like
Neil Barrett: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right. We were we've been talking about field. I I shouldn't have included that. You're right. But but in that
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. ⁓ I mean, I don't know. I i I think it'd be fair to say Panel like would it be would it be fair to say Panel's a top three attackman all the time?
Neil Barrett: Well, see that and that this is where this this conversation gets like really into the weeds because like I just said, Mikey Powell and Lyle Thompson are the two best I've I've ever watched. Those two are attackmen. That's two. That means I got one spot left and I got Junior, I got Casey Powell, Ryan Powell, I got ⁓ sh you know. Why am I blanking on all attackmen now? Who's who's another good attackman?
@HootSportsMedia: Or even even even just top three all offensive player players, including Middies.
Neil Barrett: Well, and and then also the question is like how are we defining this? 'Cause I I think the conversation is about pro. So as as far as offensive pros go, I mean again, p what Paul Rabel did from the midfield is insane.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah.
Neil Barrett: So like he's up there. You know, like you said, you you got Junior up there, you got, you know, you got Mark Millen, you got there's there's so many guys up there. We'll we'll get to we'll get to him in just a minute, but where does Matt Rambo fall on this? In terms of like the p
@HootSportsMedia: Recency bias will get me on that one, so I'm the wrong person to ask.
Neil Barrett: Right. Well, and like you said, I I think that's part of the issue with Rob Pinnell is that a lot of people maybe don't remember who he who he was for the Lizards or, you know, ⁓ again, this is a pro conversation, but who he was for Cornell, ⁓ a and are are remembering the last few years with the Redwoods or or whatever. ⁓ you know, I I don't I'm not suggesting that ⁓ Matt Rambo belongs in this conversation. But in terms of the PLL era, like Matt Rambo's one of the best players of the PLL era. ⁓ you know, the last few years haven't really shown that, but So all that's
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I don't know. I think it'd be fair to say that that Pinnell has had a a a top five career for sure. At ver like if we're talking if if we're talking about just offensive player Mount Rushmore, sure. He's he's had probably had the best career because he stayed healthy enough to put up to play enough games in seasons, even now at at his old age, quote unquote. He's putting up the numbers offensively. It's not just goal scoring, it's assisting as well. Like So from that standpoint, like you gotta put ⁓ up there. And I think most most fans I think would probably agree to that. But like I saw the cli the the video that ⁓ Mitchell Pelke did with PLL this week asking all the the fans about their Mount Rushmore. Some of them were definitely trolling with some of their answers. Like Brendan O'Neill is in his third league season in the league. There's no reason he should be on Mount Rushmore yet. But I do think there's like certain people that didn't even think about like other positions. The one kid said two goalies and I like, okay, well at we're thinking about, you know, more than just attackmen here. But
Neil Barrett: Well, you know what was really funny to me? The question was your ⁓ your your pro lacrosse Mount Rushmore. How many people said Jim Brown?
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah.
Neil Barrett: That dude did not play pro lacrosse. There was no pro lacrosse.
@HootSportsMedia: Hey, he w he was a good he was a good lacrosse player though, tell you what.
Neil Barrett: He was so good that he makes the pro lacrosse Mount Rushmore, even though pro lacrosse wasn't a thing for like forty years after he stopped playing. But whatever. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: yeah. Could you imagine what he would have been doing though as as a pro? Man.
Neil Barrett: Dude, a monster. la last kind of comment on on Rob Pinnell and and we'll we'll move along, but I I think I have a comparison. Let me know what you think. I think Rob Pinnell is Emmett Smith. He is the guy who was good enough and healthy enough and on good enough teams long enough.
@HootSportsMedia: Thousand points.
Neil Barrett: That he he put up numbers and you can't argue with what he did, but when people are naming the best running backs in NFL history, he's kind of an afterthought. I think, like you said, I don't know that he ⁓ or I I don't want to put words in your mouth. I think this is kind of what you were alluding to. We often tend to think of people that made us, for lack of a better term, feel something when we watch them play. And I don't know that Rob Pennell ever did that. He was a very like straightforward kind of player. He he played the the the way that like you would draw it up on a chalkboard. And I don't mean any of this as an insult. It's still an incredible thing. Emmett Smith was always one of my favorite players. But I think just generally people don't think of him as one of the best running backs of all time, beyond the numbers that he put up. Just just a thought, just throwing that out there. That's that's my comparison.
@HootSportsMedia: Probably fair.
Neil Barrett: All right, all right. That's all I needed to hear. Probably fair. Let's move on to let's move on to You think people are gonna come at us? Listen, listen, 'cause not only
@HootSportsMedia: Can't wait for the discourse under this episode now. I don't know if they'll necessarily come at us, but I think they will definitely have some strong opinions and be like, ⁓ I can't believe they said this or that ⁓ when in reality we're just we're just saying there's a lot of opportunity here.
Neil Barrett: Not not only Listen, in that segment, not only did we denigrate Gary Gate. Well I I did. Gary Gate, John Grant Jr., Mark Millen. We also denigrated Emmett Smith. Like we just we're just throwing everybody under the bus now.
@HootSportsMedia: Technically we're just talking about the best of the best all time. It's really a compliment that they're in this conversation, you know.
Neil Barrett: That's true. That's true. I I completely agree. That's how that's how I view it. We're the fact that you're even being mentioned means that you're in the conversation and none of it should be an insult. It's literally splitting the finest of hairs between all-time great and second bet, you know, one A and one B on this list. All right, let's let's move on to some of these other games from this weekend. ⁓ first of all, I d we
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: I I I should have gotten directly into this. It was Indigenous Heritage Weekend. We talked a little bit about the jerseys last week, but we actually saw them on the field. What changed and what didn't change of your opinion of the Indigenous Heritage jerseys?
@HootSportsMedia: Nothing.
Neil Barrett: Nothing changed. None of them were better than you thought they were. None of them were worse than you thought they would be.
@HootSportsMedia: No, I mean like the like you pointed out, the outlaws like this is the problem is the jerseys were all different from what they showed us. Like y you look at the initial every type of photo they put posted, the mock ups they posted, they were completely different than what was actually on the field. So like the s the shoulders on the outlaws, instead of being grey, just had like the design was silver, which I like I told you, I think it is better. But it's still too abrupt for me the way I that was my complaint about that. ⁓ the chaos one, I don't remember if it didn't have it on like the bottom part of the sleeve, and then the actual jerseys show up and now they have it on the bottom part of the sleeve. I'm like
Neil Barrett: You know what's interesting? I went back and looked at the mock ups ⁓ specifically for those because I was like, that was not on there. I had the same thought. That was not on there. And I looked and it is very, very faintly, but it's it's just, yeah, it is. It's just nearly impossible to see. Nobody just like scrolling social media, even looking at the uniforms, just scrolling social media, noticed it. But it was it was technically there. Yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: Is it? ⁓ I see it now in their in this mock-up. I need to I need to find the the photo they took against that like grassy wall or whatever it was.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, it's tiny. It's it's on the photo too, but again, so like faded out that you you can't see it. ⁓ unless
@HootSportsMedia: Okay, we gotta we gotta do better then so we can see what's actually on it.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. No, I I I agree. I agree. The ⁓ the the whip snakes teal, ⁓ the the pattern was so much darker, so much heavier. Mm what I thought those patterns would be would be almost kind of like ghosted. They'd be more of like a detail than like a a true design element. And in every single jersey, they turned out to be true design with one exception. Well, I won't say there was only one exception. There's one exception I can think of. And that was the Utah Archers. They're the one jersey. ⁓ I take it back, the Atlas as well. Both of those jerseys, the pattern on the shoulders receded into the back. It was more of a detail. When you looked closely, you could see it, but it wasn't like standing out. It wasn't popping out. And that was way better in my ⁓ estimation. I I I asked you if any of them were better on the field. The Utah Archers were better on the way better on the field than I thought they'd be. I I didn't think they were the worst mock-up or or or anything, but I I was not a fan of them. And when they walked out on the field
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, 'cause they had orange. So it's automatically the best.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ jeez. ⁓ I'm trying to think of what what else I I mean, Carolina Chaos was the worst one, right?
@HootSportsMedia: trying to scroll through. I'll be honest. The I think the teal, all teal look is a good look generally. I I wasn't a fan of the way it reflected on TV. I think the lighting was was a big factor in that. the highlights were just out of control. But I think if I saw it in person, it would look fine. Again, the shoulders were horrific. Like I told you guys in the chat, that's not the same blue on the shoulders.
Neil Barrett: Yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: whatever color black, whatever color it is. ⁓ we're assuming at this point that it was just the lighting in the other photos and mock ups, but like it was such a drastic change that I was like, ugh, I I don't I don't love that. Otherwise I th I think the design of the jersey's fine. ⁓ as a uniform, the Outlaw's orange shorts I thought worked very well for having a white jersey. I I enjoyed that. The best one to me I think was probably Philly. probably because it was as close to their regular stuff as you we've seen. New York's is fine, but the the problem I have generally is the new blue they the light blue they have, I I hate it. It doesn't pop the same way. I I think it looks poor compared to their previous blue. I'm I've rant about that plenty of times. my least favorite was still the cannons with the grey. I just don't I I don't vibe with that. I I want red, I want blue
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Yeah. I didn't mind the I didn't mind the the uniform. I'm fine with, you know, they already have a blue jersey. Like I don't necessarily need them to do another blue jersey. ⁓ I think if I remember correctly, they did a red jersey last year. So like I'm okay with the gray. What killed me was the gray with the white shorts. Like no contrast, nothing. I was like, dude, if you're gonna do that, ⁓ especially because you you went gray, gray, and then white, and it's like
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah.
Neil Barrett: Give me something. If they had red shorts, I think that uniform would have looked a lot better. You want to talk about a tricolor? Where their navy helmet where that gray and then the red shorts could have been dope. ⁓ but yeah, the white shorts killed it. ⁓ sorry.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Honestly, the chaos, had they done white shorts, would have been improved drastically.
Neil Barrett: My big problem with them is there's there's no helmet they can wear with that jersey that's gonna look good.
@HootSportsMedia: Of course, of course, you can't but we can't change that. It's gonna be bad no matter what. But the fact that you go bright red, burgundy, bright red was a little bit like Ugh, I don't don't like that.
Neil Barrett: I you know, w that's what I said on the show last week. I was like, I that might be the way to fix it. And I I think it was the best of what ⁓ options were available to them. I don't I don't know that white would've looked. any better at all. May ⁓ maybe it would. ⁓ you know, I there were there were certainly things that that walked out on the field this weekend that were better than I thought they would be. ⁓ so maybe it would. I I just don't I don't know. I I just don't think I just don't think that there's any way to save that that jersey because because nothing that you do shorts wise or helmet wise changes the fact that that is a burgundy jersey with red with bright red sleeves. Like you're not fixing the main issue with this jersey by pairing it with different helmets or or shorts or whatever. So yeah, you know what's crazy?
@HootSportsMedia: Also the Redwoods should have went triple mismatch while we're on that topic.
Neil Barrett: Yes. They were they were such a missed opportunity. The brown jersey I thought w looked good. It needed I I I did not like the green. The green helmet killed it. ⁓ I still think they should have gone yellow, brown, gr yellow. ⁓ you know, but
@HootSportsMedia: I'd be down for that. White shorts, something. I just didn't I it's weird. Sometimes I'm all for like the all one color, but this this was just one that I like, we gotta break this up a little bit. Cause and honestly, I think they probably have maybe the best designed jersey because they have the built-in like ⁓ you know, trees, I guess, in it, which I I really enjoy. But yeah, it was it was just tough to look at. And then like I said, when you're pairing that
Neil Barrett: Yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: against the all teal that's just reflecting like crazy with this I was just like, ⁓ this is I I don't this it's not my favorite. ⁓
Neil Barrett: It was a it was a jarring uniform matchup. Did you see? I think it was Goose It. Maybe somebody, somebody on TikTok, I I want to say it was Goose It. I might be wrong with the about that. Ranked the jerseys. I think they did this before the games last week. I just saw it today. ⁓ but I think they did it before the games because they were only using the mock-up images. ⁓ and they had the chaos as the their favorite one. And I was like, What? What? I haven't heard a single person that said a single good thing about that jersey at all. Like it was every single and it's this is anecdotal, but every single person I know said it was terrible. And then this one dude had it as his number one. I was like, wait, what just happened? So
@HootSportsMedia: I don't know. I don't mind Burgundy as a color. I just it's not chaos red to me. So that was my my biggest complain like everyone else stuck with their colors for the most part. There's right we talked about like the archers and such, but and then it's just like here's this color that we've used one time, like seven, eight years ago. It's like, whoa, what?
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Well, we didn't really talk about it because I didn't really realize it until I started seeing some of the guys on ⁓ on the field, ⁓ some of the teams on the field. ⁓ but we last week we talked about the chaos, that that was kind of a it was really reminiscent of their 2019 color scheme. And then I got to looking around and I was like, the whips are in teal, which I I know they have gone back to that color scheme, but the whips are in teal. The To my knowledge, they haven't worn a teal jersey since they came back. Well, I guess this is the first year they've done it. So never mind, that's a stupid statement. ⁓ but the whips were in teal, the water dogs were wearing lavender, their shorts were not like their normal, like deep saturated purple. They were in they were lavender, ⁓ which was their original color scheme. ⁓ and then the archers had both royal blue and navy blue, which was their 2019 color scheme.
@HootSportsMedia: Yep.
Neil Barrett: And I was like, surely this isn't a coincidence. Like they never mentioned it. They never said that that was part of it. But I'm like, surely this isn't a coincidence that we have all these like original colorways being used, right? Like, I'm not.
@HootSportsMedia: Which is weird that they did it for this instead of throwback weekend.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, I you know, I I don't I just yes, yeah, I I wondered about that too if they would do it too. ⁓ and maybe that was just kind of a way of like linking these two or together or something, but I just I just don't understand why you would do that burgundy for chaos if not. ⁓ the only thought I had, the way I would fix it, if you w if you just really want to do this burgundy colorway, I'd have gone burgundy and black.
@HootSportsMedia: Or maybe they will for that as well and it's just like a that's what they're gonna do.
Neil Barrett: And tried to do like a like a Washington College or UMass kind of like colorway and just get rid of the the bright red because that's the the two reds clash. Like that was the issue. I think the the main issue with the design itself was fine. ⁓ you know, I didn't think it was anything special, but it wasn't bad. It was just the clashing colors were just so bad. So Anyway, let's talk about the games on the field and not what they were wearing now. ⁓ next up, we saw the Denver Outlaws take on the Carolina Chaos and the Outlaws won 10 to 8. I don't this game was weird. They I don't even know what to say about it. Like this was just a weird game. If it felt like neither team really wanted to win this game.
@HootSportsMedia: That's what happens when you change colors for no reason. You lose ten to eight.
Neil Barrett: I mean, none of the outlaws I felt like were playing super well. ⁓ maybe I shouldn't say all of them. ⁓ you know, Logan McNaney was probably pretty good, ⁓ you know, arguably.
@HootSportsMedia: I mean ninety ninety two percent clean save percentage is wild.
Neil Barrett: I mean, it's what he does.
@HootSportsMedia: It is what he does. I mean Lu Luke Wearman was great. Not that, you know, he's playing against anyone crazy, but
Neil Barrett: ⁓ obviously we talked about Ross Yeah. ⁓ but none of the the Teforaton guys really played all that well up until Pat's game winner or game sealer, I guess, ⁓ at the end there, ⁓ when he dodged through like it felt like the whole team. ⁓ but otherwise, you know, it's not like he he played well before that. Brennan didn't play well, Derek Bernhardt didn't really play well, like You know, it it just felt like a game where nobody really wanted to win and just somebody had to.
@HootSportsMedia: Sure. ⁓ I really only got to watch the s fourth quarter basically. So I was kind of monitoring it the rest of the way, but I was working so I I couldn't couldn't watch. But the parts I saw looked all right, but again that was late. Pat Kavanaugh's play was sick. I don't I still don't know how he did that. I mean
Neil Barrett: I don't think anybody actually landed a check on him. Like I I don't know I don't know why they threw the flag.
@HootSportsMedia: Which is saying something 'cause It was like it was too y it was too dirty to not throw a flag. It's like you guys just let this man run through you you're getting a flag for no reason.
Neil Barrett: I mean, that's fair. That that was a that was a flaggable offense, but I watched it especially when I saw the watching it live, I thought, okay, got hit. And then we watched the replay and I was like, I don't think anyone even hit him. Like it's no wonder he held onto the sti the ball the whole time. Nobody even
@HootSportsMedia: Shout out to Matty P Yes. Nah, there was like seventeen slashes. I think they probably need to be suspended a game and, you know, whatever else.
Neil Barrett: Listen, you know you know that you're not playing them this week, right?
@HootSportsMedia: I don't care, suspend him anyway. Suspend him the next time we play him. That's the only repar you know, that's that's the only thing that makes sense right here. ⁓
Neil Barrett: ⁓ geez. ⁓ one note from this
@HootSportsMedia: Shout out Pac Hab, that's all I gotta say. The boy. Now here the the biggest thing is the outlaws just sorry, real quick, the outlaws cannot continue the trend and lose this week. Now they play two games. So if they lose and win, then this is twenty twenty four all over again. Because that year they literally one lost, one lost, one lost.
Neil Barrett: I mean, listen, it might happen. We'll get we'll get to the we'll we'll get to the we'll get to those games in a minute. But ⁓ the other kind of big note from this game, probably arguably the bigger note from this game, is that Jack Real Jack Rowlet went down with ⁓ I don't even want to say a concussion. I don't know I I don't know what happened. ⁓ that was crazy. It didn't look
@HootSportsMedia: Don't say that, it's not gonna happen. Two and ⁓ this weekend. On the way.
Neil Barrett: It looked fairly innocuous live. I I didn't think ⁓ it looked too crazy. It looked, you know, kinda like he just got crunched a little bit on both sides. ⁓ but he was stretchered off the game and take stretchered off the field and was taken to the hospital for ⁓ evaluation. there's been no official word, I don't believe, but ⁓ I think everyone is expecting that his season is done. He was placed on IR today. ⁓ but I I think everyone is expecting that his season is done at this point, so
@HootSportsMedia: I didn't see it, so no comment. I hope it heals fast.
Neil Barrett: Always, always. ⁓ well
@HootSportsMedia: And was it Liam Burns that also got injured on that play? Or Scarpello? Scarpello?
Neil Barrett: No, ⁓ it it wasn't the same play. It was a different play. He did get hurt. ⁓ but and he was out for a little bit, but then he was back on the sidelines trying to get back in. I c I don't know if they if he ever actually got back in, but they did ⁓ they did show him and talk about him back on the sidelines trying to get back in. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ okay. Well either way, I hope both of them are are good, especially Jack, 'cause I know he gave the thumbs up and was tweeting afterwards, but you know, it's still still not ⁓ not great.
Neil Barrett: Well, th I mean there there's a difference between I am healthy and alive and and that's all that really matters at the end of the day is that like he is alive and will recover. ⁓ but there's a there's a big difference between that and I will get to play this game again. ⁓ I originally tweeted out in the in the moment that I didn't think that I had ever seen this in pro lacrosse. ⁓ and then ⁓ Jordan in our group chat reminded me of Jackson Place. ⁓ I that was I think before your time he was an Archers defender. Real similar thing. ⁓ got crunched on a play, ⁓ went down, had to be carted off and missed the rest of the season. And then I I believe he tried to come back. ⁓ I can't remember if it was the next season or the season after that. ⁓ and I cannot remember if he if he played a a game or two and then and then was out ⁓ again or if he'd never actually made it all the way back. But either way, after that injury he was never the same and never really played. And so again, obviously number one is that Jack is healthy and recovers and gets to live a normal life. ⁓ but the the step beyond that is that he gets to be back on the field again. ⁓ and and being the player that you know we all know him to be. So let's move over to the next game of the weekend that saw the Utah Archers absolutely smack around the Philadelphia Water Dogs. Was it 18 to 8? I thought it was 16 to 8. ⁓ In my head it was 16 to 8. And then I s it was 16 to 8.
@HootSportsMedia: It was. It was sixteen to eight.
Neil Barrett: And then they scored two more. Is that what you're saying? Okay. All right. All right. So they they won 18 to 8. ⁓ the Archers won by double digits for the second week in a row. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: Yep.
Neil Barrett: The water dogs came into this game as like everyone's darling, you know, CJ was the shoe-in for MVP. The Utah Arch ⁓ not the Utah Archers, the Water Dogs were the best or one of the best teams in the league. And then enter the short stick defensive attackmen unit. ⁓ I don't need I don't even know what to say. I think every single one of them had a goal in this game. ⁓ Connor Fields was going off, Mac Mac O'Keefe, Trey LeClaire was going off. Like this is this I think is what Chris Bates was envisioning that the Utah Archers team would look like. And we all laughed at him. And now here we are.
@HootSportsMedia: Who who's we all? I'm pretty sure I said I was willing to hear out his crazy idea and see what happened. This was back when they were like two and four or whatever they were.
Neil Barrett: Listen. Listen, you and I both know that you did not have any faith in that.
@HootSportsMedia: I mean I still didn't think it was going to work long term, but I s I said on this show, I said something to the effect of I'm not a head coach, I'm willing to see what happens. Because you could tell they had to change something. And I even brought up how, you know, they were kind of aging out. They were like in between this like weird, you know, kind of transition period. And now they're getting to a point where I think the guys that have been there are starting to mesh with the guys who maybe haven't been there long enough to where now it's making sense. Now that said
Neil Barrett: You did.
@HootSportsMedia: You need Trailer Clare to play like this. And I'm not saying he needs to drop nine points every game, but if you notice, they look a lot better when Trailer Clare is a legitimate threat. And when he's having games or he's struggling, all of a sudden the wheels fall off and it's like, Who is this team? Which is crazy to say on a team that has Connor Fields and Mac O'Keefe and and a bunch of other guys, like so I think if they can kinda keep that going along with the defensive side of the ball, like defensive side of the ball is nothing to them. Like it's so easy, it you know, we're not worried about that, but ⁓ they just gotta put the ball in the back of the net more often. ⁓ I d I don't really know how you know Philly broke down this this bad. ⁓ obviously offensively they need more, especially from their midfield. in generally when I say that I mean more so they need to figure out a consistent midfield group that makes sense because every week there's a new player in there and it's obviously not working anymore. But then defensively I just felt like they just couldn't they didn't literally didn't stop anybody. You they put DeLuca in a bad spot, who who had his worst game of the year, I think by a country mile. Yeah, I don't know. It was a bad game from them.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, no, I I'm I'm with you. I th I think ⁓ It's it's funny because I'm I'm with you. I I well, I mean, I think everyone is at this point. Trey LeClaire seems to be the key to that offense. ⁓ Jackson talked about it a couple weeks ago when he was on the show that he really felt like like Trey LeClaire was the key to this offense and that ⁓ he needed some time. You know, he's he got b he missed, I think, the first two games ⁓ of the PLL season, but then it Took him a couple of games to kind of get back into the rhythm of the PL and everything. ⁓ but ⁓ Jackson, I I think was was one of the first people to say, like, look, if if if Trey can get back and can get going, he felt pretty good about this offense. like you though, I I think it is a little bit dependent on Trey LeClaire. ⁓ and and yes, right, right. So
@HootSportsMedia: For now at least, it definitely is.
Neil Barrett: You know what it's going to
@HootSportsMedia: 'Cause the problem is he he he came in with zero points that first game he played, and then he had that big six point game and then had three very pedestrian weeks to where it's like, Alright, who come on and then now he pops off like this. So it's like if they can find a nice middle middle ground there to where he's putting up three, four points a game and you have to respect him, like 'cause then it opens up stuff for fields as well, and it's like this is easy at this point, especially when your your defense is giving up eight goals a game. Or or whatever it is, like You need nine, dude. You don't even need to get double digits, like and you know, not saying that that's like a a you know, a plan for success every week into the playoffs and stuff, but like if you know for a fact, okay, we're gonna hold them to eight or nine goals, we only need nine or ten, like seems pretty like a pretty good team.
Neil Barrett: No, no. Yeah. No, I'm with you. No, I'm I'm I'm with you. That that team, that defense is insane. And and my my question, and I'm not even I'm not even asking you this because I I'm pretty sure I'm pretty confident that you're on the same side as me. But my question is how long until we start talking about Brett Dobson for MVP? Dude dude has been insane all year.
@HootSportsMedia: I I said these things last year.
Neil Barrett: The archers
@HootSportsMedia: He's just continued it.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Well the
@HootSportsMedia: People didn't want to listen 'cause they were bad last year. Now they're starting to heat up and people like, ⁓ look at Brett Dobson.
Neil Barrett: I was gonna I was gonna say, I think a lot of people agreed with you that Brett Dobson was incredible, but the team was not very good. This year, they are significantly better, so
@HootSportsMedia: He should have been ⁓ V P last year and I will stand by that. And he potentially could be ⁓ V P this year.
Neil Barrett: Well Yeah. And and you and I last week both said it's CJ's MVP, but the only the only guy that has a chance of catching him is Brett Dobson. And then we had this weekend. And now I'm I'm as far as I'm concerned, it's a it's a it's a fifty fifty. Yeah. Yeah, maybe it's not quite ⁓ yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: CJ cracked the door. There's a door stop there's a door stop in between there now. I'm like
Neil Barrett: Yeah, that like they are they're they're neck and neck as far as I'm concerned. And if if CJ has another game, and I'm not even talking about this week, I'm talking about like if there's another game this this season where he just is completely out of it, I I think it might be enough for him to lose the MVP, which feels crazy considering where he was just last week.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, but I Dober needs a couple more games at sixty percent to really solidify it. Most likely.
Neil Barrett: Well, may maybe maybe to actually win it. In my mind, I don't I don't need him at six I don't need him at sixty percent. I I need that that defense to keep holding teams to eight points. Because as far as I'm concerned, and I and I don't mean this with any disrespect towards that that defense as a whole, because it's very good.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, he'll be a finalist.
Neil Barrett: But as far as I'm concerned, he's the leader of that offense. Or excuse me, offense. He's the leader of that defense. And he is one of the biggest reasons why they are able to hold teams to such low point margins. ⁓ you know, it it it for me, it's a lot like a quarterback in in football. Why are we talking about football so much today? ⁓ but it's a lot like quarterbacking in football where You the quarterback gets the credit and the blame for how the offense plays. And I think goalie is a very, very similar position, ⁓ where they get they get all of the blame when the the defense isn't performing well and they lose their job, then the flip side of that means that when their defense is playing well, we should be giving them more props. So as far as I'm concerned, Brad Dobson is He doesn't need to be at sixty percent, but I think you might be right that in order to actually win it to get the votes, he might need to be have a few more games at sixty percent. That's fair.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, I mean I'm looking ⁓ Think I think he's leading the starters in in
Neil Barrett: He is.
@HootSportsMedia: Save percentage. I'm trying to find it in their their website and I don't really like how this works. So where's ⁓ here's the C full stats thing. Okay, I was like, where did it go? none of this matters because Logan was announced because it's gonna win MVP, so
Neil Barrett: Yeah, their their website's trash. Okay. says the guy who was just like, I think he should have won it last year and he's gonna win it this year.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, he He should have won it last year. That's a valid statement. That I will s I will die on that hill. And I I'm sure if Dauber sees this, he he would agree.
Neil Barrett: But you also just said that you also just said that he was gonna win it this year too. So
@HootSportsMedia: I think he I think he will end up again, if he keeps the pace. But I also don't know that people will will want to vote a goalie to win it necessarily. ⁓ but yeah, he he's yeah, but that's different. That's
Neil Barrett: I mean Blaze did it. How?
@HootSportsMedia: How's it okay, the name Blaze Reardon holds a lot of weight.
Neil Barrett: The name Brett Dobson better be holding a lot of weight.
@HootSportsMedia: Obviously not 'cause he had a killer year last year and people still held it against him that his offen that's not his that's not his f he's the only reason they even had the four wins, whatever it was that they had.
Neil Barrett: His team wasn't any good. It's not the s Again, the same thing was used against Lyle Thompson. Nobody thinks that Lyle Thompson isn't one of the best players of all time. I said one of. I said one of. But I also but I also did say that Lyle was.
@HootSportsMedia: Anyway, anyway, I also also whatever. We're going back to this. Also, that was multi many years ago when Blaze won this. We're talking about now. And we've since seen
Neil Barrett: Many years ago. It was five. He won it in twenty one.
@HootSportsMedia: That's a long time ago, dude. That's a that that's a long time. That's half a decade. Alright? Times have changed. Alright. Apparently all it took was four years for people to forget how crucial a goalie is to not give a goalie MVP.
Neil Barrett: Half a decade. ⁓ my god. You're just you're just gonna die on this hill, aren't you?
@HootSportsMedia: I am gonna die on this hill. I think I I think Dauber should have won ⁓ V P. I think he can win ⁓ V P this year. It's gonna depend again on CJ, 'cause I still think people are gonna say CJ's ahead of him right now. But if CJ can can drop off a little bit I mean who else who else in the league is even, you know, in the con in a serious conversation for it? Like it's it's it's those two. Colter will get his talks, you know, Sours will probably get his talks, but like it you know, it's those two.
Neil Barrett: No, it's it's those two. It's it is those two and that's it. You yeah, I I don't I don't think you can put Sours in over CJ. Not not when they have the same point total and CJ's played two less games. Like no. No. Not and I and and Michael Sowers is is one of if not my current favorite player.
@HootSportsMedia: I think we should do this based off of who has the best shooting percentage. Funny enough, CJ is second on that list as well. But
Neil Barrett: ⁓ huh. Who's first?
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ it's just some guy named Logan Vosnowskis. I don't know
Neil Barrett: ⁓ geez, I should've I how did I not see that coming? Jeez.
@HootSportsMedia: Ha ha ha ha. If he ends up as a finalist for MVP, he doesn't have to win it. He just has to be a finalist. You're never gonna hear the end of it. Logan was to ask us.
Neil Barrett: No.
@HootSportsMedia: I I hope he does. Attackman of the Year something.
Neil Barrett: Who Who would be the should we do four or five?
@HootSportsMedia: It'll probably be four.
Neil Barrett: Four. Okay, so who would be your four finalists right now?
@HootSportsMedia: For a attackman or for ⁓ VP?
Neil Barrett: For MVP.
@HootSportsMedia: Dober CJ Hang on one sec, I'm trying to reset these numbers here. ⁓ Can it just be a two man race? These are ⁓
Neil Barrett: I mean I mean it basically is.
@HootSportsMedia: I don't know that there's anyone else I even want to inc Colter. Just put culture in there. ⁓
Neil Barrett: See even you don't want to put Logan Wisnow.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ I thought that was assumed. He's already a shoe win. He's just, you know. I'm trying to where's the Emmett Carroll? I don't know. I don't I don't know who that fourth one is. It honestly it'll probably be a big name attackman who had a good season but not MVP level just so it can be an enticing race and and it's not gonna matter 'cause it's gonna be two guys and that's it.
Neil Barrett: Well, okay, okay. Yeah. I look Hey, like I said, as as far as I'm concerned, it's it's Dauber and it's CJ. Those are the those are the only two guys right here, right now I'm I'm I'm putting any money on. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: Or Brendan O'Neal just turns it up out of nowhere and just gets back to the MVP level.
Neil Barrett: You know, h it's been so long though, I'm not even sure I'm not even sure he could do it at this point. Like I it what
@HootSportsMedia: Five more games. Five five more games. All he has to do is put up like trailer clair numbers. Five games.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, but what would it What would it take out of those five games to get him there?
@HootSportsMedia: I mean he's averaging three points a game right now, which is Yeah, he has twenty one points in seven games.
Neil Barrett: Brennan is?
@HootSportsMedia: Fourteen goals, seven assists. I'm also kidding. I don't think Brent has any chance, but I was just reading down this list and I'm like they're all kinda bunched up. And of those guys I think he can make a run. Like Dylan Malloy has twenty one w in eight games though. ⁓ like Spilina has twenty three and six.
Neil Barrett: All right. Interesting. No no no I know.
@HootSportsMedia: CJ has twenty three and five, which is why that's so crazy. And then you got a bunch that are all at eight games apiece, basically at twenty four, twenty-five, twenty six. And then Culture's at twenty eight in eight games. Like Culture's having a great year, but I think it's more of a quiet year, which is why I don't think he has any legitimate, you know, chance even if he's a finalist. ⁓ But then again, like I it's g honestly, I'm more interested in seeing the way that It worked out with Dober last year and the team was so bad. If Philly continues down this path and ends up in a similar situation, I wanna see how the discussion is regarding a CJ and a Michael Sowers at the end of the year.
Neil Barrett: Listen, I think we've already set that precedent with Lyle Thompson, with Brett Dobson. Like we have set that precedent. I'm not changing it. If that's gonna be the precedent, that's fine. That's fine. I'm f I I don't love it. I thought Lyle should have at least been more in that conversation. I think he was technically a finalist, but like I I don't think anyone thought he was actually going to win it because of how bad the cannons were. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: And and so I don't necessarily agree with it, but that's fine. If if that's the precedent we're setting, that's fine. But I'm not breaking that precedent for CJ Kirst. You know, it he he has to he he has to if the precedent is that you're so good that you are bringing your team along with you, then that needs to be the precedent. And and we're not breaking that precedent for the the media darling that is CJ Kerse. So
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Also, I misspoke. Brennan has has eight total goals and eleven assists.
Neil Barrett: Mm.
@HootSportsMedia: But obviously he has two two points, which is how he's got to twenty one. Dylan Malloy's the one that has fourteen and seven. All of a sudden I like, Wait, he only has eight goals and then I was looking at Logan Wisnowskis who has the same seven games played, twenty one points, but he has eighteen goals and three assists. That's hilarious seeing the total differences. Anyway. Hey, he's efficient at it too.
Neil Barrett: And seven. All he does is shoot. But this is a this is a good transition point because last year's MVP played the Boston Cannons with his team, the New York Atlas, and they were up. Ooh, I don't remember the exact score. I want to say 10 10 10 6, 10 5, something like that, 10 5, 10, 6.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ they were up eleven to eight at half.
Neil Barrett: Yes. ⁓ you know what it was? It was eleven. It was eleven to five. And they scored three points in five seconds and went in. And that seemed to be the backbreaker. That seemed to just absolutely kill them because they came back out in the second half and just nothing. And I I believe Boston scored ten straight goals ⁓ to to run out ⁓ of with that victory. my
@HootSportsMedia: But I think it was like eleven to five or something 'cause they scored like three and whatever. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: I don't even want to necessarily talk about this game because I don't know, man. It wasn't it wasn't that fun. We were just talking about the MVP. Do you putting aside your belief that that Brett Dobson should have won last year, does this make you reevaluate last year's MVP and Connor Schellenberger's season? Because obviously he's missing Jeff T. But like we kind of thought maybe he was starting to figure it out, but then he doesn't play very well in this game and his team loses and like I don't know. I d does it at all make you make you second guess his MVP last year?
@HootSportsMedia: I was second guessing it last year. So, I mean everything I s everything everything I brought up last year is the same this year because last year I even said you have it so and this is not taking away from him as a player, but he has it so much easier when you have Jeff T on your team in addition to the other offensive players that like you're not getting the top pole every game. Like some guys are, like
Neil Barrett: I said
@HootSportsMedia: Hate break it to you, but some some of these guys are their points are down because they're they're facing the top guy every single week, and it opens up opportunities for other players. That's just the case. And I mean, he still had three points in this game, he was fine, you know, but he only took one shot. Like, why why is your top player getting one shot? Brian Cosfield took 10 shots for reference. I'm not opposed to Costa taking ten shots, but you can't take ten at the at the expense of Shelley taking one. And to me, like I said last year, Dauber was The guy on his team that kept them even remotely close in games, the offense just couldn't seal the deal. Whereas like with Atlas last year it was like, You have a bad game, don't worry, we got you over here. You have a bad game. That's why even when I my team had two guys in the MVP race and I was kinda like I don't know that you should have two guys in the race because and I've said I said this with the bandits for the last however many years as well in the NL. It's much easier to play better and have better numbers when you have other guys are at the same level as you at the top of the top. It i it's just a fact. Like and so now you're seeing this this year and it's like you you should be way better. Like you you should have more opportunity with Jeff Teat out and yet we're taking one shot against Boston. You're not playing Brett Dobson. You're not playing weeks one and two Dylan Ward. Like you're you're not playing a McNamia Blaze. No disrespect to Colin Kirst and their defense, but Boston gives up twelve plus goals every single week. It's no secret. That's literally what they do. So one shot, if you're if you're getting three assists, just playing the game normally, and you touch the ball forty five times, let's sneak in some shots here and there. That's my that's literally my my my frustration with every star attackman in this league is there's times where they're too passive. And it gets to a point in games where you're like, yo, your teams get in the you know, the breaks beat off of them. That third quarter, you go you you can't go up at halftime, up three points, and then you go in the third quarter and get four o'd. And not be like, Okay, we gotta start pushing the pace a little bit here. And yet that's what they did.
Neil Barrett: Look, I I Yeah. ⁓ look, I'm I'm I'm with you. I like I said, I I don't even really have much to say about this game because I mean the Atlas are just not a good team. Like they just aren't. They're they're
@HootSportsMedia: They have stretches of games where they they look fine and it's like, okay, if you can just do this, like ha take this lightning in a bottle and just extend it a little bit. And then as soon as you're done thinking that, it goes back to just and again, it doesn't it doesn't we've been talking about it all year season, so I'm not gonna, you know, beat a dead horse too much, but it doesn't make sense when you look at the names on the roster and it's like you should be I I know they lost Adler and I know they lost Teeth this year, but like Liam Entiman, I think we'd all agree is one of the One of the best goalies in the world, top three probably. You have Baptiste who's top two, top one all time. Th you have a solid defense, a good amount of offensive star power, and yet this is the result week after week. And you're putting up thirteen points and losing.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. I'm I'm with you.
@HootSportsMedia: I don't know why I'm ranting, this doesn't actually matter to me, but it's just one of those things that I'm just like watching these games every week and I'm like, again?
Neil Barrett: Let's ⁓ let's let's have a conversation that's maybe a little bit more fun. Maybe. ⁓ Utah has won two straight by massive margins. ⁓ Boston has won three straight. I'm wondering which team do you have more faith in down the stretch? The Utah Archers or the Boston Cannons?
@HootSportsMedia: Utah.
Neil Barrett: Why is that?
@HootSportsMedia: Better defense, better goalie.
Neil Barrett: But a real inconsistent offense.
@HootSportsMedia: Doesn't matter. You're holding you're holding teams to eight goals a game. That's not an official stat by the way, I don't have it pulled up. I just think that's what it is. It's it's along those lines.
Neil Barrett: But it's it's around eight goals a game for sure.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I I Boston again, like I said last week, if you're you can only score thirteen every week for so many weeks. There's gonna come a time when that doesn't work. And when if when that comes in the playoffs, it's gonna be like, ⁓ what happened? And what they're they did all this stuff during the regular season. I can tell you what happened. They gave up twelve plus goals every year, every week. They happen to squeak by, they get to a crunch time game and that's when it's gonna bite ⁓ in in the behind and Utah's not doing that. Brett Dobson's not getting to a a playoff game and giving up thirteen goals. It's just not happening. ⁓ stamp it on here right now. And if if if we come back after the season and he does, I will gladly be like, Wow, I cannot believe that that happened.
Neil Barrett: I he might. What did he give up when they lost last w last year?
@HootSportsMedia: Probably like ten. Better yet, better yet.
Neil Barrett: Wait, they weren't in the playoffs last year, were they?
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ not in the actual playoffs, but they played did they play the final week to get in though? hang on, hang on. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. This does not have playoffs in it, so I don't think he they played playoffs. But that last game against Chaos, he gave up ten goals.
Neil Barrett: Maybe. No, they didn't play.
@HootSportsMedia: Sixty percent save percentage. ⁓ eleven goals. Now now hang on. I apologize though. That's that's goals that he gave up, not scores. So he must have given up two two points in that game.
Neil Barrett: What about the second or last? All right. 'Cause it's fourteen.
@HootSportsMedia: So that was fifteen then, I guess, that game. But the game before that, nine. He had a a rough one two weeks before that was sixteen, but like ten, eleven, seven, nine, eleven, thirteen. And and his his save percentage that entire season too was astronomical. Sixty eight, sixty five. He dropped down into fifty four, fifty-five. Fifty was slowest. Goes back up to fifty three, sixty, sixty eight, fifty six, sixty. ⁓ and he had fifteen saves, fifteen, twelve, fifteen, ten, sixteen, seventeen, seventeen, fourteen, fifteen.
Neil Barrett: Like I said, as far as I'm concerned, him and Jeff Teat are are basically the only two that I'm listening to conversations about best all-around player in the world. It's those two dudes. And that's it. I take it back. There's probably a few other I would, except they don't play one or the other anymore. ⁓ you know, Dane Smith is probably still in that category, but
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Neil Barrett: We'll never know, will we? ⁓ so anyway, yeah, that w that was just kind of
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I don't even remember what question you what what question you asked. I don't even remember that.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ which team you had more faith in?
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ which team do I have more confidence in yeah, that's why I have more confidence i in Utah, right there. That man named Brad Dobson.
Neil Barrett: I mean he listen, he's given a full fifteen, sixteen, whatever you said a few times, but I'm not betting on that to happen, that's for sure. So
@HootSportsMedia: He's not doing it every week like like some other teams.
Neil Barrett: I mean the the one good thing about doing it every week is you can count on it. They're gonna give up twelve. They're gonna give up twelve. Listen, you know you know what the you know what you gotta do.
@HootSportsMedia: Hey offense, we need eighteen goals this week. You're not wrong on that front. I would argue though it's better to know I need to score nine goals a game than thirteen, but that's just me.
Neil Barrett: You were I mean you were just I mean only if you're capable of doing it. You know, I'm not I'm not entirely convinced that ⁓ the archers can do it, but you know, I'm not I'm also not saying that you're wrong. I think Brett Dobson is that X Factor. And I would probably lean in fact when I was asking the question out loud, I wrote it down and when I was asking it out loud, I was like, Yeah, but one of these teams has Brett Dobson and one of them doesn't. So you know, I I'm I I'm I'm with you.
@HootSportsMedia: It's that simple.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ I think it's one that like if you sit down and you really kind of like go through, yeah, but this, yeah, but maybe you can convince yourself of Boston. But at the end of the day, it's like
@HootSportsMedia: Dude, I did I did that last year with Boston. I'm not doing it again. Like
Neil Barrett: I mean that's that's fair. This is kind of what they do. They look really good and then they just crap out in the playoffs. So you know
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. They're on a they're on a heater though. I'll give ⁓ credit. They're on a heater. So you know.
Neil Barrett: They they they definitely are. They definitely are. So let's switch gears for a little bit and talk about the WLL, where the Maryland charm took on the Boston Guard and walked out 21 to 17 winners. The charm clinch a spot in the first ever WLL championship. ⁓ this score flatters Boston, I think, a bit. ⁓ Maryland looked like they were gonna run away with this. And then it became a bit of the anything you can do, I can do better battle between Bridget Duffy and Rachel Clerk. ⁓ Bridget Duffy had one of the most insane stat lines I have ever seen. It was like it was a it's a Zach Courier stat line on steroids. She finished the game with seven goals, three assists for 10 points. She also had. I believe it was nine ground balls and two cause turnovers ⁓ in this game. Just an absolutely insane performance from her. This was also a game of records left and right. The charm scored on had 15 assists, which is a ⁓ record. 21 goals for a team is a record. And then Rachel Clark just absolutely. went off in this game. She scored nine goals, added two assists. She also had a few ground balls ⁓ as well. I don't remember the exact number of ground balls. ⁓ but that is a WLL record for goals in a game and points in a game. ⁓ she was incredi y you remember the Brennan O'Neal game from a couple years ago in Charlotte. It was like that, except s marginally better. In I I know that I can say this to you because I know that you you'll know what it was like to watch that game. And every time they came down and didn't give Brennan O'Neal the ball, you just went, What are you doing? Get him the ball and get out of the way. And it was the same thing watching Rachel Clark in this game. Every single time one of her teammates came down the field and didn't get her the ball. It was just like.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, yeah.
Neil Barrett: What are you doing? It's your only chance. The only thing about this game was that they had they waited just entirely too long to try and get anything going. ⁓ I again I didn't write it down. I don't remember exactly off the top of my head. Maryland was up pretty big. I think it was 11 3 at one point. ⁓ they they had several big leads. I think it was also 14 6 at one point. ⁓ Boston got it within two, but couldn't ever get it any closer than that. And it ended up being four as they just got stretched out. ⁓ but with that win, Maryland seals their place in the WLL championship game. And now we look forward to the California Palms playing Boston. ⁓ Boston is mathematically eliminated. They cannot, they will not be playing in the playoffs. The California Palms, if they win, they will still be in the championship. If they lose, they will still be in the championship as long as they don't lose by, I believe it's nine goals. ⁓ if they do for some reason lose by nine goals, the New York Charging will be taking their place in the championship game. So ⁓ that's fun, I guess. The ⁓ Wasn't as fun as it could have been if Boston had won that game and we would actually have a win and in scenario. But I guess we still are kind of getting that a little bit. ⁓ but what's up?
@HootSportsMedia: No. I don't it my headphones just died. What an awful time for that to occur. Keep talking. Keep talking about whatever you're talking about. Hang on. I will ⁓
Neil Barrett: ⁓ ⁓ I basically basically just said everything that I had.
@HootSportsMedia: Get these other ones set up. That sucks. I don't know why I didn't charge these before this.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ man, what a what a rookie mistake. What a rookie mistake here.
@HootSportsMedia: Where's it at? Where's it at?
Neil Barrett: Let's see what else I got here.
@HootSportsMedia: Maybe, maybe.
Neil Barrett: Y are you back? Nope.
@HootSportsMedia: Hold on, hold on. Is this thing not connected?
Neil Barrett: Right. Something changed.
@HootSportsMedia: This is good podcasting right here.
Neil Barrett: Don't worry, I'll cut it out.
@HootSportsMedia: It says it's connected. I can't change my like volume on this thing. ⁓ wait, hey, hang on. Hello? Hello? There we go. There we go. We're back. We're back.
Neil Barrett: Can you hear me? A's back. All right. ⁓ so with the performances this weekend, we now have everyone has played at least three games. ⁓ my question I I guess is is is Bridget Duffy the the front runner for MVP at this point? She's been incredible the last two weeks for sure.
@HootSportsMedia: I mean what are what are her numbers overall?
Neil Barrett: I believe she is second behind Rachel Clark. I don't remember the exact numbers. I think it's 20 points, something like that. ⁓ she had 10 this week, and I believe she had seven the week before that, if I remember correctly. Something like that.
@HootSportsMedia: So she's she's averaging five points a game. So did Ashley Humphrey. I don't remember what her last two games were. Let's see here. We can figure this out. Yeah, there's like no stuff Okay, so Ashley this game had seven points. Which means that the last game she had three points. So she's definitely got her beat, probably.
Neil Barrett: And their their website's even worse than the PLO one, so it'll be
@HootSportsMedia: I mean Rachel Clark has one more game.
Neil Barrett: And then Ashley had one. Yeah, ⁓ yes, Rachel Clark has one more game. ⁓ the problem is the problem is Rachel Clark, I think, has the same issue that ⁓ you know, that that we're talking about, where Boston is winless. They're 0-3 right now.
@HootSportsMedia: And she's at twenty. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: And they're already mathematically eliminated before they even play their last game. So as much as I'd love to see Rachel Clark, especially after the after this weekend, she was incredible this weekend. ⁓ you know, it's it's tough to really put her in when that team is that bad.
@HootSportsMedia: Maybe maybe Madison Du Set.
Neil Barrett: I I mean I I would certainly give her a shout as well. It
@HootSportsMedia: Thirteen more saves in the next closest, three more percent, one less score against per game.
Neil Barrett: As far as I'm concerned, those are the two that I have. Madison Ducet and and Bridget Duffy are the the two. at least at least with a realistic shot. Like I said, Rachel Clark absolutely deserves it. I just think with as bad as Boston's been, it it would never be her. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah, that's fair.
Neil Barrett: So looking ahead to this weekend, we have Utah playing Denver, Philly playing New York, Boston playing Carolina, Maryland playing Utah, and Philly playing Denver again. not Philly playing Denver again, but Denver playing for the second time in the weekend. ⁓ in fact, Denver and Utah are both playing doubleheaders this weekend. ⁓ as is Philly, actually, now that I now that I take a look at it. But all five teams. Yeah, I didn't I didn't either ⁓ until just now. But this is one of, I think one of two weekends where three teams are playing doubleheaders.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ I didn't I didn't even realize Philly was doing it as well. That's nice. I just realized there's no redwoods.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ yeah. I thought everybody was playing. Why? Because you wanted Dylan Ward?
@HootSportsMedia: That is so garbage. Yes. I I was under the impression we were getting all five teams for the first time since going back to home cities. I could have sworn that did they add Philly as a second they wouldn't have changed it without announcing it I guess. Man, that sucks. That sucks.
Neil Barrett: Yeah, I thought I thought everybody was playing. No. And this isn't the first time that all all five because everybody played this weekend. Indigenous heritage has ⁓ has always been Yeah. Sucks. Yeah, I don't like that either. I this whole schedule has been funky, but other I'd I'd agree. I'd agree. ⁓ other than missing Dylan Ward, what are we looking
@HootSportsMedia: Don't like that at all. If you're gonna have five games, everyone should be playing, in my opinion. ⁓ if you guys are smart, you know the Outlaws will lose their first game and win their second. So for Pick'ems, keep that in mind. It's happened, I think, each of the last two seasons, if I'm not mistaken. ⁓ Excited to see Philly twice because they're gonna definitely change up that midfield from game to game. It's gonna look if I had to guess several players will be switched out there. That'll be fun. I do that's gonna be fun as well.
Neil Barrett: Good to see your boy Yago again.
@HootSportsMedia: getting CJ cursed. I it's cool I got to see him play here in the N L L ⁓ for the first time and then now to see him again. Obviously I've seen him play before ⁓ field, but now that he's like ⁓ V P cursed, that's gonna be more exciting. Spilina, second time I've gotten to see him this year as well. ⁓ after pl seeing him play for Syracuse against Denver. So that'll be cool to see him in the pros and kinda compare those. ⁓
Neil Barrett: Yeah, yeah.
@HootSportsMedia: Trying think what else. I don't know, it's I'm kinda hoping we see some some separation from some of these teams overall. Obviously I'd like the outlaws to kinda separate themselves, but ⁓ I think Philly with their double header has a chance to and and and Utah really does as well. But you know, like we're talking about with their iffy offense, like I I just I question that a little bit, but ⁓ I don't know. Should be should be a good weekend. I'm disappointed that that Boston doesn't have Asher because he's a Colorado guy and so it's fun when he plays here as well. So ⁓ well on that one I guess, but I don't know, it should be a good weekend. I I don't know what what made them do five games in a homecoming, but I'm with it.
Neil Barrett: At some point. Well, y you know why they well, I won't say this is why, but I think this is why. ⁓ is because there's no WLL this weekend. ⁓ because the world championships start this week. ⁓ and so I think they just they wanted a fifth game and and part of I think having them on the road with them this year is has, you know, pulled a game out ⁓ here and there. So this was just a a way to add it back in, I guess. ⁓ I'd also imagine, ⁓ to be completely honest, that Denver's like renting their facilities is probably cheaper than some of the other locations that they go to. So, you know. what pick one game that's like the game of the week. What do you w which one do you think?
@HootSportsMedia: The last one, Denver Philly.
Neil Barrett: Denver Philly, okay. I think I might go
@HootSportsMedia: Because those two are the those are the two teams that people are saying are the best in the league. Pretty consistently. So Whether or not that's true doesn't matter because that's what they're saying. The streets are saying. People are saying.
Neil Barrett: I mean I don't know about after this past week. The streets are saying I'm I might go with that that game right before the Utah D ⁓ Maryland game.
@HootSportsMedia: That sh should be a good one.
Neil Barrett: And then I the Utah Denver game as well. Like, you know, those three games for sure.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, I am curious to see how the the teams look that are playing doubleheaders. Comparatively. Actually, I didn't even I didn't even think about this either. The two teams that that aren't playing doubleheaders, or two of the three that aren't, play at at noon our time, which is like dead heat. And it's in like the hundreds this week. I don't know what it's looking like for that day. High is ninety six, so that could be kinda difficult. I don't know what colors the teams are wearing. ⁓
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Yeah. I well it's it's been a trend
@HootSportsMedia: If Boston's wearing blue that dark navy, boy ⁓ wouldn't that want to be them.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ this is totally rant tangential. When is throwback weekend?
@HootSportsMedia: Couldn't tell ya. Let's find out. Let's find out. Columbus probably?
Neil Barrett: Not everybody's playing in Columbus. It's gotta be a what's another new
@HootSportsMedia: What do you mean everyone's playing? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Who's not playing that weekend?
Neil Barrett: It's
@HootSportsMedia: not Boston obviously, it's not Philly. It's gotta be that. That's the only weekend left that isn't a homecoming.
Neil Barrett: Are those
@HootSportsMedia: Unless we just don't have do we not have a a throwback?
Neil Barrett: I don't know. Now I gotta look it up too.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ y ⁓
Neil Barrett: I thought there was one. I thought I found something at some point that said what the
@HootSportsMedia: Who else is in the East? New York, Philly you know, the whole East is playing in Columbus. And the entire West is playing in Columbus. It's gotta be that next week.
Neil Barrett: Which is weird 'cause that's when the Stars and Stripes classic game is.
@HootSportsMedia: It doesn't it doesn't even say throwback either, which is what's weird.
Neil Barrett: No.
@HootSportsMedia: Maybe they're not doing it.
Neil Barrett: But yeah, no, you're right. I I mean it would have to be next week 'cause it's the only neutral site. Did ⁓ To be fair, if you click on Rafferty it ⁓ it doesn't say indigenous heritage.
@HootSportsMedia: I'm trying to see if I can pull up their like full schedule. Does it did it say it on No, it doesn't say it on there. So who knows? If it happens it'll have to be next week, but
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Anyway, that was ⁓ a random tangent. ⁓ couple more things before we get out of here. One thing I thought was really interesting. Did you see Lu Smesh tweeted out that several teams had reached out to Ottawa looking to make a a deal for Jeff Teat with offers going as high as five first-round picks? And so that so kind of two questions, but kind of one question. Would you trade five picks for Jeff Teat? And Or would you accept five picks for trade for Jeff T?
@HootSportsMedia: Yes to both.
Neil Barrett: A lot of picks.
@HootSportsMedia: I mean it i yeah, but you gotta think like Ottawa probably going over to Edmonton. Does Teat want to play at Edmonton? The answer's probably no. Maybe he does, but the answer's probably no. So at that point you gotta think, okay, we're gonna have to get rid of him. I think five firsts is pretty good. Especially it also depends who you're getting ⁓ from as well, because if you're getting a top three pick, imagine you get CJ cursed. Not not literally, but A CJ curse type, and all of a sudden it's like, okay, well, you're set up well in the future. and and again, like, are you getting those picks in this draft and the draft after? Because those are some pretty good picks if you are. ⁓ or they will be. So I don't really I think the problem is they're not gonna have a choice if Teet if they really do go to Edmonton and T's like, I'm not going there. Well, okay. Five firsts plus some, that'll get it done. And then As much as I as a GM would be hesitant to trade five first, you know for a fact what you're getting with teeter. You're you know he can play pretty much every game of the year. He's pretty durable. He's I that's ironic right now, I I I rec recognize. But usually, ⁓ so I just think you know what you're getting. Even if you can tell me, hey, you're gonna get a CJ curse type, you know, first rounder, we already have that at home.
Neil Barrett: Ha ha.
@HootSportsMedia: And it's one of the best players literally on the planet.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. I I I think when I first read it, I was like, five five is a lot. But like you said, you know what you're getting with Jeff Teat. And he's still young enough that you could you could have him for a ⁓ good while. You know, it's it's one of those things where it's like Yeah. Yeah. I mean the NLL has not shown a very good track record with that, but but if they if they do
@HootSportsMedia: And with proper marketing too. I think it'd be better if you get him back in the States and you ca you can get get the PLL fans of him to kinda jump on board. Think that could be good.
Neil Barrett: Well the
@HootSportsMedia: 'Cause I don't I don't know how Canadians really view him because they have so many of the, you know, best players in the world there. I mean, I know Lyle Thompson isn't Canadian, but he's playing MSL in their backyard how many times a week, you know what I'm saying? So I don't know how much they are like it's not as much of a spectacle as opposed to like an American who's into lacrosse might like, Wow, this is Jeff T, like I need to buy all his merch and da da da da you know what I'm saying? Maybe I'm off base there, but just a thought.
Neil Barrett: I mean, I mean there's been there's been so I've seen so many conversations about that with Brennan O'Neill and and how much, you know, the way that he's sought after by fans is just different. It's just a a completely different level from even other like NL superstars. So you know, I I don't think that that you're necessarily wrong. on that. ⁓ The the flip side of that conversation.
@HootSportsMedia: Whoa, what the Sorry, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. Nuggets are making deals over here.
Neil Barrett: The flip the flip side of that conversation is you know, we saw what what Toronto just did with three picks. I mean, admittedly, all in in in the first round, but ⁓ in the same first round, I guess I should say. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah.
Neil Barrett: But I also am this is totally i irrelevant to the conversation, but am I wrong or do they they have two more in this two more first rounds in this draft, don't they? Cause they have theirs and Calgary's.
@HootSportsMedia: I don't remember. I don't remember if they only have the one last year or if they have another one this year.
Neil Barrett: 'Cause 'cause in a in a weird ⁓ way, you could look at it as having three if assuming that they have their own first round and Cal I they have Calgary's, 'cause that was a big debate about, you know, if Calgary was bad enough last year, they could have ended up with the number one pick while winning the N L L championship. ⁓ but then I don't know if they had their own as well. or maybe that was a pick swap. Like I I don't know. ⁓ what the deal was with that. ⁓ but in a weird way, you could look at it as having three first round drafts in back to back drafts, three first round picks in back to back drafts, because ⁓ because they got CJ and Owen Hilts, and then they drafted Ty English, but he went back to school, but they got Sam English from the previous year's first round pick. So that was kind of like getting three, but then Ty will come out this year. So that's kind of like getting a third, you know, plus yours and Calgary's. Like that's insane. That I I I know we have some some qualms with their ownership, but GM needs needs a raise. That's
@HootSportsMedia: If it's the same guy.
Neil Barrett: That's a problem. That's a problem. I don't like that. I don't like that at all. I don't like that at all. Is it really the same guy?
@HootSportsMedia: I'm pretty sure Jamie Dalwick is their GM as well. Ma maybe not. Maybe Matt Sawyer does some GM in YouTube. I I'm almost certain it's him.
Neil Barrett: Well, fine. He's a better GM than he is an owner, I guess. I don't know. That's right. That's right.
@HootSportsMedia: Who knows? Who knows? A c one of our Canadian friends will tell us. We can ask them and they can they'll be like, You're way off base. That's not that's he's not their GM or
Neil Barrett: Brad'll Brad'll be in in Lax Lifers this week talking to us about it. So ⁓ speaking of GMs and owners in the NLL, the Nighthawks announced today that they are going back to their original color scheme of teal and purple. what are your thoughts on this?
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah. About time. That's what I like to see.
Neil Barrett: I'm I am going to be the one and I know I'll be the only one. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. Not a not a hater. Obviously, the color scheme is great. It's incredible. My I have I have two issues. One is a longer term issue, one is fixable. ⁓ the longer term issue is that unless and until they get their their history back.
@HootSportsMedia: Who's a hater? Doesn't like it. So bad.
Neil Barrett: From Halifax, I don't I I was one of the people that thought they shouldn't go back to the the TLM purple. For me, it's like it's like when the the New Orle when the Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans and then they got rid of the name and they became the Pelicans. And for a few years we were still the Bobcats. And then they made a a deal to to get the history back and everything. And that's when they brought back the Charlotte Hornets. And to me, it's a similar kind of thing. Like If we don't have the the history and the cups and all of that stuff, then like you're just you're you're not the same team. Like I don't know why we we have such a like nostalgia bait, like everybody just wants to be, you know, who they were or whatever. So that's that's my that's my only like qualm with it. The the fixable issue that I have is that the purple and teal are entirely too dark in the logo. In the merch, if you look at the merch, it's the it's the right shades of purple and teal, but the logo is so dark and then the white pops up. It's just I feel like they could have done it better. I also feel like they probably should have just used a different logo. Not saying they needed to go back to the old one, although, you know, if you're if you're gonna do this, like go all in, I guess, but you know, I don't know. I didn't I d I don't love the the logo. That's it. That's all that's all I I gotta say.
@HootSportsMedia: No one listened to him. Great job. You brought the new the new logo, the new school the new franchise logo with the old school colors. Well done.
Neil Barrett: Lo listen. I think I think the logo could could be done better. I don't like the way they've colored it. ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: But but you've only seen one logo.
Neil Barrett: I mean that's lo that's gonna be w their main logo now. What are the
@HootSportsMedia: You haven't seen the R yet?
Neil Barrett: Do you think they're gonna Do you I know which R you're talking about? Do you think they're going to make
@HootSportsMedia: The R with the wings? I'm just making sh I'm I'm just painting the picture for the viewers.
Neil Barrett: So that th so that anyone who hasn't seen it, there's an R with wings. That's
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, it's awesome. Actually, I prefer the other one better, but it's not bad.
Neil Barrett: I actually do really like the R with the wings. ⁓ I but I just figured since they since they put out this logo and not the R that this is going to be their primary logo. This is what's gonna be on on their jerseys. ⁓ and then my
@HootSportsMedia: Potentially. But they split they split those though usually. Like there are way jerseys have have one logo and their home has the other. So I would assume they keep that. Maybe they don't, I don't know.
Neil Barrett: Yeah. Maybe. But also how much of that R really is gonna change? Cause I mean it was just a white R with some shadows.
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ there was some green outline maybe or something or You c you could do some changing. You could just you could cut the wings almost in half with some different colors or something. Maybe mix some purple in there. I know. Let me live. This is a good idea.
Neil Barrett: I think there was like a green outline or whatever, but I feel like you're trying to convince yourself, but I'll let you have it. I'll let you
@HootSportsMedia: No no no. I'm already convinced. I'm already all aboard. You know what happened the last time I was all aboard a train? One a natty, alright?
Neil Barrett: ⁓ the the Palumbo train. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's fair. That's fair.
@HootSportsMedia: Shout out Palembo. Yeah. Yeah. The Nighthawks might not be a good team, but they're gonna look good doing it.
Neil Barrett: I mean, they were your dark horse last year.
@HootSportsMedia: They really were, until they weren't.
Neil Barrett: So maybe maybe they just need listen, one more thing about the about the color change. I liked the colors. I I get it. Everyone had that nostalgia for the the the purple and teal. I liked them. I liked that they were that it was something different. It was something that not everyone else had. I didn't love the fact that ⁓ they went to black because At one point I I should I wonder if it's changed. At one point, I think it w this was like two or three years ago. It was like 13 of the 15 teams had a black plop ⁓ a black jersey in their like not like a one-off, but like was like part of their rotation. ⁓ so I didn't love that they went to to black. But the the army and the gold, like I I liked it. I liked that it was different. I like that they they did something new and I'm a little bummed that we're missing that. But that being said, I I always thought their jerseys could be a little better. But ⁓ Couple more things before we get out of here. The N L L announced ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ Sorry, there's one more thing we'll add on to the end of this as well.
Neil Barrett: Right.
@HootSportsMedia: I was gonna say Deluca just got placed on IR.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ I did actually mean mean to bring him up when we talked about it. ⁓ I knew he got injured and was was out and Sean Byrne came in. Sean Byrne. ⁓ I know ⁓ I thought it was really funny when ⁓ Kyle came into the the group chat and was like, ⁓ man, Sean Byrne sucks. And I looked at his stats and he was three times better than what DeLuca had been.
@HootSportsMedia: Yes.
Neil Barrett: in that game. And I was like, I mean, as bad as he as bad as he's been, and I don't I don't think anybody thinks Sean Byrne had a good game, but he came in cold and it was an injury. He didn't even warm up. Like he just ran on the field and played in a game where they were already getting smacked around. Like, you know, what was he supposed to do? But ⁓ a bummer to hear that he's on the IR. Hopefully he comes back again healthy and better than ever. ⁓ the NLL announced its 2026 Hall of Fame class. Dan Dawson Ooh, this is gonna be hard for me to get through. Dan bought Dan Dawson, Sean Evans, Mark Steenhouse, ⁓ Sandy Chapman, Mike Akurse, Jake Bur Berge? Bergey. Burgie. Which one?
@HootSportsMedia: I think it's burgody.
Neil Barrett: Bergie, Gavin Prout and John Gertler, who I was on his halftime show. That was cool when I saw him announced. ⁓ are the 2026 Hall of Fame class. This is the first class since 2021, right? That's what that's what we saw. ⁓ and that is the only class since 2018, I think. I don't know why they don't do it every year. That seems so crazy. ⁓ I feel like there are plenty of guys that could go in, but ⁓ You're the you're the box guy. What do you got to say about these guys?
@HootSportsMedia: It's a great class. Hopefully it we don't wait another four or five years to to do this. ⁓ but nonetheless, it's pretty cool. ⁓ glad Gavin Prout got inducted, obviously. He was ⁓ a big part of my childhood, so that was cool. ⁓
Neil Barrett: Even I know that this is a great class, so
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, I don't know. I I think it's a good thing. I I I don't have any other thoughts. I thought the graphics were awesome. Michael Harrison did a great job with those as well. so yeah, and there's still a few that didn't get in that I think could probably get in next year or whatnot. It's just, you know, they already had a bigger class probably because they didn't do it in a while, so
Neil Barrett: Yeah. No I g ⁓ Michael Harrison smacked those. Yeah, those were great. Yeah. Yeah. I I hope they do it more cons mi I mean, if they don't want to do it every year they then that's fine or whatever. ⁓ one thing I did wonder, obviously it's it's a different setup com compared to the PL with the the touring model versus like a a home and away. Do they do like a presentation or anything? I mean it you may not even know because they've only done it once in like a decade, but
@HootSportsMedia: I don't know Hall of Fame wise. Jersey retirements they definitely do. But I'm not sure what it's like for Hall of F I would hope so. I w I would hope that game one this year when I'm in the building, they do something. But I also don't know like th that would also depend on the schedule of the players too and so I think it'd be cool though, especially 'cause Prouder played here most of his career. Outside of a few years, so that'd be nice. Dan Dawson obviously still with the Rocks, so that would be super easy. I'm sure they'll have some tribute on the Jumbotron for him since he's already there. Same with Micah Kerzy, ⁓ being in Halifax. John Gertler, same thing in Buffalo. So we'll see about the rest, but I would hope so. I think they'd be kinda cool.
Neil Barrett: In Buffalo, yeah. That's fair. Yeah, I th that'd be sweet. I just didn't I didn't know, and ⁓ obviously it's been so long since they did one, you know, they may not have done it last time and now they are, and ⁓ you know, who knows? ⁓ speaking of roster changes, Matt Rambo was released by the New York Atlas today. ⁓ I don't think this is necessarily mind blowing. ⁓ it it was crazy that he even got an opportunity to play after leaving the whip snakes. I thought for sure he would be done. He got an opportunity to. What kind of blew my mind though is he started the game this weekend. You know, it's not like this was a guy who, you know, was sitting on the bench, you know, just kind of taking up a roster spot and they finally decided to cut him, you know, kind of like Romar Dennis was, you know, not not really, you know, kind of on the fringes of the team. Like he started the game on S Saturday or S Sunday, Sunday's when they played. ⁓ and and then Tuesday morning they cut him. And it's just like, That part felt a little crazy, but I I don't think anybody would think that, you know, it was crazy that he got cut. So who knows? ⁓ real interesting one came out ⁓ yesterday. ⁓ Maddie Epke of the Boston Guard. after this weekend, she went ⁓ 26 for 40 at the draw circle. ⁓ it's a big part of the guard and Rachel Clark being able to play kind of make it take it. ⁓ she is headed back to college to play field hockey at Northwestern. ⁓ she is using the five for five eligibility rule change to go back, ⁓ which totally blew my mind. Apparently, she is a lacrosse player, field hockey and ice hockey player. ⁓ she played all three of those. ⁓ I don't know how long she played ice hockey, but I I watched a little clip of her doing all three. ⁓ Also interesting. I I didn't know this. I I looked it up. I wondered if she would be available in the spring for, you know, the the championship series or anything. Field hockey season is in the fall, so she'll be done in November. So should be available for the championship series, shouldn't miss any time. ⁓ so that's that's cool, kind of interesting. ⁓ another big one, all the rest of these are all women's across things. ⁓ Sam Apuzo was hired as the USC w women's Head coach. ⁓ she has been an assistant coach at Boston College since 20, I think since she graduated in 2019. ⁓ she was a first a graduate assistant and then a full time assistant. Now she's the head coach ⁓ USC. ⁓ team USA is headed to Tokyo for the World Lacrosse Women's Championship. they I don't know when their first game is. I want to say it's like Friday. ⁓ They I know they were traveling today. They were all over the place. I I'm I'm real curious, real quick. Charlotte North is traveling with them. And I I felt like that was kind of weird. Not because I don't think she should or whatever. I would love it. It just it feels like a thing where like no one else would be allowed to. Right? Am I wrong about that?
@HootSportsMedia: Say that again.
Neil Barrett: Charlotte North is traveling with the team. And I'm all for it. I would I would love for it. But I I feel like the only reason that she's allowed to travel with the team is because she's Charlotte North. Like if it was any other player, they they w would just be at home.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Probably. But I mean that's we've seen that with a bunch of different s you know. She is USA Women's Lacrosse. So, you know.
Neil Barrett: Perks of The perks of being Charlotte North? I mean, that's fair. I just I just thought I was like, man, ⁓ all I could think of was some of the stories. And admittedly, this is a league game, like it's a totally different situation. But all I could think of was some of the stories that we've heard about some guys who had like injuries and and were not allowed to travel with their team, were not allowed to visit and stuff like that. ⁓ and just thinking like, man, but Charlotte North gets to like, you know, I that's a perk of being Charlotte North, I guess, but ⁓ just seemed weird. And the last little thing to hit on is that ⁓ the women's across the the Division I women's championship starts this week, but the division two ⁓ women's world championship actually just wrapped up in Poland and Italy won the gold medal over ⁓ new Mexico. Kind of a cool thing to see. I'm wondering if they'll do start doing that in the men's side as well. ⁓ I think that would be a really cool thing to see. ⁓ for anyone who doesn't know, I had to look this up and I may not be 100% right. Basically the top 16 teams that qualify go to the the, you know, the main ⁓ women's world championship. That's where the 16 best teams, quote unquote, are. ⁓ and then the next 16 teams qualify for division two and they'll play ⁓ they played at this other championship. And I think it's a really cool idea to help like developing nations have ⁓ something to play for as well. ⁓ 'cause you know, a lot of those teams have no no real shot at landing on a on a metal podium ⁓ in in ⁓ against, you know, Canada, US, Hawen Shoney, that that kind of stuff. So ⁓ that is all my news and notes. ⁓ what you got going on this week, man?
@HootSportsMedia: PLO.
Neil Barrett: Shootin'. Shootin' the PLL.
@HootSportsMedia: It's my whole weekend. I actually I ordered a ⁓ I ordered a new power bank for computers just to get me through that Saturday slate of three games. So I I don't know if I need to pack like a lunch like a lunch pail or something, since I'm gonna be there all day or what, but maybe I'll just go go eat some stadium food. I don't know.
Neil Barrett: It's gonna be the whole thing. Yeah. Are they Are they? Are the games split?
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. I ⁓ first night obviously back to back, and then Saturday it's twelve o'clock, four thirty, seven thirty.
Neil Barrett: So you'll you'll have a couple of hours between that that twelve o'clock and four thirty game.
@HootSportsMedia: I wouldn't even say a couple. 'Cause the like by the time warm ups start. I guess it depends on what I want to shoot really. So we'll see. ⁓ I have I I have a new lens coming that'll be here tomorrow. ⁓ just for this, so I'm pretty excited for that as well. ⁓ No no no I bought.
Neil Barrett: Maybe an hour. Rented. Look at you.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah, I one of my buddies has let me use this lens several times and it was like I used it at the event a couple of weeks ago at ThriftCon a couple of weeks ago and I was like, yo, I I just I need to bite the bullet and just do it. ⁓ so yeah, that'd be cool.
Neil Barrett: Speaking speaking of, can you real quickly tell everyone the story of what of what happened you what you messaged us this week about the PLL photos on Twitter?
@HootSportsMedia: ⁓ about ⁓ my goodness. Yeah. I so so so at one point this week, right, I was looking at photos from the Atlas game, just like scrolling through, and every photo seemed like like fuzzy. Like almost like whoever was shooting just missed focus, like just enough to where it was like, What is happening? And so finally like I scroll and I see one from the archers game. And so I was like, yo, like that's why I sent it to you guys and I was like
Neil Barrett: This is so funny.
@HootSportsMedia: I don't know who was shooting, but it seems like there's something wrong with their lens. Like it i everything is not working. And then I I I get out of the chat, I click on the photo, and it's still fuzzy. I'm like, okay, let me just close my app. I open it back up. That thing loads in like 4K. I go back and check all the other posts. It's all in 4K. So this is just going onto my list of Twitter chronicles. Just
Neil Barrett: Photographer on photographer crime right here.
@HootSportsMedia: Everything with this app dude is so wrong. It logs me out. It locks me out. I can't tweet sometimes. Photos don't load. It just looks like it's like you know when you you have glasses, but you don't have them on and everything's blurred. I was like, what is happening right now? So shout out to the photographers. They were great photos that when you let them load on Twitter look awesome. Twitter, fix your app, please. End of rant.
Neil Barrett: Will I will tell I will tell the audience the same thing I told you about a year ago? I had the exact same thing happen in the exact same manner where I kept seeing images and they were they were blurry and I was like, what in the world? And again, it wasn't it wasn't from one source, it wasn't of one team. It was like several different teams, different photographers, all kinds of and I was like, I had the same thought of like. What happened to the PLL images this week? And I posted it in our big group chat. And literally as soon as I did, I I didn't even have to reload my app. I went back out and the the like you said, the image just like popped to life and it was like, ⁓ and I I did the same thing. I started scrolling through and I was like, wait, all of these and I had to immediately be like, ⁓ never mind. I'm an idiot. And so I I was laughing so hard because when you were when you sent that back and you were like, never mind, they weren't loading.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: All I could think of was that same exact thing happening to me and how stupid I felt for not not knowing that they just weren't loaded and being like, ⁓ well, of course somebody posted these blurry images. What an idiot.
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah. Well and what's weird was like it was loaded enough to where it looked like just a missed focus image. Like I there's been times where I've missed focus and it's like you could use it if like you absolutely needed it, but like you really don't want to use it. So that's why I sent it and I was like, yo, is something like wrong with their images this week? And then I went back and all of a sudden it it fully loads and I was like, So we're just half loading photos on here, making it look awful. Like
Neil Barrett: ⁓
@HootSportsMedia: You know, and it's funny 'cause I had this type of issue when I was uploading Instagram photos, ⁓ prior to when I got a new a new device like a few months back, and I couldn't figure out what was happening. It was just Instagram was truly just uploading my photos at like a low resolution. And so that's what I thought was happening. Was just like, dang, they really didn't upload these correctly or something. Something's wrong. So I was glad to be wrong about that, 'cause I was like, this is not what we're used to. but yeah. I'm glad it wasn't just me that's had this issue.
Neil Barrett: Mm-hmm. No, no, definitely not. Like I said, ⁓ it was it was cracking me up just thinking about like being in that exact same position and you know it's funny though, 'cause ⁓ like you said, I I I wouldn't have ever thought anyone else I thought, ⁓ I just had this this weird little thing happen to me and then you know, a year later here you are and you have the exact same thing. And I'm like, all right, well at least I'm not the only one. So
@HootSportsMedia: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Neil Barrett: ⁓ all right, that is going to do it for this week. If you enjoyed this episode, the Lax Lifers Club is where our community lives between episodes.
